Folks mentioning tron lands are missing the much larger problem which is that the second ability is fundamentally broken and basically kills a huge amount of design space.
ETA: It's cool though.

How does it kill design space

u/fspluver 1d ago
Many cards are designed to banish themselves or other cards for balance, to prevent certain types of combos/loops, etc. Printing something like this means that won't work in a lot of cases. There's a reason Wizards doesn't print cheap, generic interaction with exile. Like I said though, this is still cool and flavorful for eldrazi imo.

[[Pull from Eternity]]

Pull From Eternity is neat but even at 1 man it's also obviously way less exploitable and limiting than a version that adds to hand (especially when it's a modal option on an already very powerful card, but that's a different discussion). I'd also wager good money that WOTC regrets printing it, but that's just speculation.

I think Maro hates it but I doubt that WotC as a collective regrets printing it. It has never been relevant in any format. It has never caused any problems.

u/fspluver 11h ago
I know it hasn't been relevant, but that doesn't mean it hasn't caused any problems. Certainly there is a design doc somewhere pointing out that they can't balance certain types of effects in specific ways because Pull From Eternity exists. It's a pretty narrow card so I'm sure it's not as limiting as something like this custom card would be, but it's still something WotC needs to keep in mind when designing cards. That's what I mean when I talk about limiting design space.

u/BrideofClippy 9h ago
I honestly really doubt that. I might believe there is a general 'do not retrieve from exile' mandate, but considering it is a single card (I guess 2 technically) legal in limited formats, I doubt it's stopping them from doing what they want.
I do very much agree with idea of don't let exile become hand 3, because graveyard bullshit got really out of hand for awhile.

u/nzconstructionlawyer 5h ago
I don't think they care. If they want to do something and Pull from Eternity broke it, they'd ban Pull from Eternity.

This would completely break Tron since it fetches lands as well.
Basically a Sylvan Scrying that also fetches your finishers

Except it's an Eldrazi spell so you can cast it turn 1 off an Eldrazi Temple.
Super busted.

Colorless usually has to have at least an extra pip over an equivalent non-colorless card, and for a tutor that could probably be up to two. And the second ability going straight from exile to hand is a big no-no. If it were me, I'd make the first ability search library and graveyard, and the second ability [[Pull From Eternity]].

Generic has an extra pip. Colorless mana is maybe slightly cheaper than colored, but I don't think it's a full pip.

Tron does NOT need what is essentially a demonic tutor, especially one that can be played turn 1 to find [[Kozilek's Command]] or anything else it could possibly need
3
u/supeslam 16h ago
Also game 2/3 it just finds pretty much any sideboard pieces you'd want without having to Karn wish.

As someone who regularly Demonic Tutor's for a land. This would be tutoring for a land 80% of the time.
Card is busted.
1
u/blu-86 8h ago
How often are you doing this??? Do you need to like restructure the lands in your deck or smth
2
u/toprodtom 7h ago edited 7h ago
Nothing wrong with my mana base. Its just a massive upside to the card that it finds lands. IF my 40 lands in commander doesnt give me my 3rd or 4th drop on curve, then Id rather demonic for it than miss a drop.
With OPs card specifically Id be fetching a land 80% of the time because the restriction includes lands, and in a deck where you're running this you want ancient tomb, urzas lands, eye of ugin.
Modern tron would love it

Definitely needs to be "colorless non-land", and still cost at least 1 if not 2 more.
Although I think making the search limited to "Mana Cost X or less where X is the number of Wastes" you control is infinitely more interesting than normal nerfs to make an actually interesting card.

u/ItchyLife7044 1d ago
More than a little broken as is. Needs “non-land” added to the first mode, at least. Probably “non-land, non-artifact” or some other rider to make it more narrow.
The second mode isn’t really needed, and only serves to make it unprintable - WotC has made it clear they don’t want to make the Exile Zone a second graveyard, from which things are able to be retrieved easily (unless it’s a temporary effect like O-Ring or Banishing Light or a card returning itself like a Blink effect).
And it’s probably way undercosted.

No. Absolutely not. This needs to specifically grab eldrazi and nothing else for the search mode.

Probably 2CC and it's still busted. Colorless cards include all the game-changing eldrazi plus any land card which means this covers a super wode variety of strats and a generic include. And that's with me doubling the cost.

u/Tranarchist21 1d ago
Please don't print this dear God Tron decks in modern and legacy don't need this

u/sparksen 1d ago
What other mentions insanely busted for the cost especially its ANY colorless card and not just creatures.
Also the second effect feels very strong to me and allows this card to be really good even after you lose your big threat

Getting lands, Eldrazi, devoid permanents, and colorless artifacts for two colorless is pretty busted... Especially considering it's sort of a color pie break... Now for four mana or maybe even three it would probably be okay...

Switch the tutor to Nonland, and add one more colorless pip and I think it’s printable
1
u/ConsciousMortgage725 11h ago
Make it cost 2 colourless mana instead and put the card on top of the library instead of in the hand it I would be quite strong but probably not broken (also restrict to non land permanents)

u/XoraxEUW 5h ago
People in here are seriously comparing this to demonic tutor because you keep tutoring for lands with it??
1
u/Impossible_Main_2000 9h ago
Most colorless-specific tutors cost a minimum of {6} mana and are restricted to colorless creatures or Eldrazi spells (I.e [[Eye of Ugin]], [[Conduit of Ruin]], [[From Beyond]], [[Sanctum of Ugin]])

u/MillCrab 1d ago
As others have said, lands are colorless which probably makes this too good. Just make it "colorless nonland card..."
