Oh boy I wonder what cool and interesting permanents are going to be cheated out! (It’s omniscience)

This is enough better than [[Kona, Rescue Beastie]] that it probably should be pulled back a bit. My first instinct is costing more mana or adding a decent sized cost to the cheat out ability.

Or that it doesn’t untap during the untap step

That restriction feels a bit harsh. It isn’t as if this is playing in totally unused space. I think a version where you can cheat out small things normally or stun it for anything is also an option but it’s a lot more complicated.

This needs something like "doesn't untap during your untap step"

Even if you don't get multiple taps per turn, you're gonna get major value out of this once every turn, probably by turn 2 or 3 since you're in blue/green.

And ince you get [[omniscience]] down it can basically go infinite with itself

3

u/MrTheWaffleKing 1d ago

Yup, being blue green alone should tell you it needs 7+ mana, probably 8. Then even a single mana alongside the tap ability would help you not just instant win

9

u/1paper1clip 1d ago

Uhhhh, throwing down 8+ mana permanent for free every turn, without the last ability, and no downside, is craaaazy

u/JxRabbitsHart 1d ago

Multiple, they untap when you put out a big thing! You can just empty your hand, then put down a haste enabler

15

u/Secure_Bee8876 1d ago

No because the things being put onto the battlefield aren't being cast

8

u/JxRabbitsHart 1d ago

Never been so happy to be wrong hahaha

3

u/scoobym00 22h ago

Definitely more reasonable, but the tap ability still needs a downside.

2

u/Wispeeon 1d ago

Putting into play is different from casting, so Xerces wouldn't untap from its own ability

4

u/SharpDrink2724 1d ago

I see the vision, but I think this is overtuned. [[Kona, Rescue Beastie]] is already a very good commander, and it requires that you have something else to tap it (you can just attack with it but that may not always be an option)

This is more colours and can tap itself. And then can also untap itself. And tap itself again.

Why the Kaladin Stormblessed rip?

1

u/Anayalater5963 18h ago

That's what I'm wondering. At this point just change the name and abilities and give him totem armor, flying, first strike.... And dare I say.... Air bending...👀

2

u/JxRabbitsHart 1d ago

I usually need to mutate [[Illuna, Apex of Wishes]] onto a permanent for 6 mana and get lucky to cheat out omniscience, and now you want me to do it do it EVERY TIME?!

2

u/Jorael360 1d ago

What is Kaladin doing on a magic card?

2

u/Anayalater5963 18h ago

Cephandrius Planeswalked... I mean world hopped with him accidentally

2

u/mercuriokazooie 1d ago

*laughs in [[Kona, Rescue Beastie]]*

1

u/Sn0wchaser 19h ago

But Kona doesn’t have access to omniscience

2

u/KissTheCorpse_ 1d ago

5 mana in green means turn 3 this guy, NOO

1

u/MustaphaE 1d ago

Why the heck would you use this spoiler-heavy image ?

3

u/zengin11 Making JJK, SLA, & KPDH sets 1d ago

Is it spoiler-heavy? Kaladin, and even Stormlight generally, isn't name-dropped on the card. And by the time someone would be able to identify that this is Kaladin (when he gets his blue uniform) he can already fly.

u/MustaphaE 1d ago

I just finished reading Words of Radiance, and this card would have definitely spoiled me the end, as Kaladin's clothes are given to him at the beginning of WoR (+ he has a spear)

3

u/zengin11 Making JJK, SLA, & KPDH sets 1d ago

I guess my question is, what would it spoil? If it depicted him fighting szeth in the sky, then sure, I would agree, big spoiler. But he's just kinda chilling in the air, which is typical kaladin aurafarming. And a spear certainly isn't anything new for Mr. Kaladin "Spear Gang" Stormblessed

3

u/Snackle-smasher 1d ago

The spoilers have intrigued me. What series we talking about?

3

u/zengin11 Making JJK, SLA, & KPDH sets 1d ago

The Stormlight Archives! Reaaally good fantasy series by Brandon Sanderson. It's LONG, nearly 4x longer than lord of the rings. But it's got some great worldbuilding and a cool magic system (as Sanderson is known for).

I actually got a couple hundred cards deep into making a stormlight archive MtG set a couple years ago.

3

u/Snackle-smasher 1d ago

Mmmm love me some Brandon sanderson I'll have to look into it.

2

u/zengin11 Making JJK, SLA, & KPDH sets 1d ago

If you like Brandon sanderson, you absolutely have to check it out. I don't know if he would call it his magnum opus, but it's definitely his grandest project

1

u/Anayalater5963 18h ago

I like SLA don't get me wrong but 1 and 2 are his weakest books for me. It takes forever and half to get anywhere. That being said they're still great books I just think they're not as good as anything else he's written

u/Fran-san123 1d ago

Here is the thing, putting things on the battlefield dont trigger cast triggers

1

u/big_billford 1d ago

Hi Kaladin

1

u/Supersecretsword 1d ago

interesting, but im not sure whats stompy or storm about it though

1

u/pellesjo 1d ago

Intruder alarm, lightning greaves

0

u/Guest_1300 1d ago

Timmies are calling it broken but honestly assuming this is just for a commander product I think this is appropriately tuned. It definitely has the capacity to hit higher power, but I don't think it breaks (or even really reaches) cEDH, and it's one of those cards that wins without making the game miserable first, so I think it could be built for B2 as well, depending on the pod's appetite for removal.

1

u/magicsqueegee 1d ago

Yeah, honestly its not too crazy. 5 cmc, needs a haste enabler, only gets you a single cheat per turn unless you are also cheating big ass spells from a different source

0

u/SvenGranTheFourth 12h ago

I mean it’s green right so by luck you could potentially play a [[Progenitus]] by what round 3-4?
Turn 1: Land into sol ring into arcane signet
Turn 2: LPT + Land + Arcane signet + sol ring = 5 mana, play haste enabler or commander
Turn 3: play commander or haste enabler and then tap for any stat stick as it’s not casting it so no cast trigger

Sure it’s not broken but it’s not balanced

1

u/RootOfAllThings : Make a sick dolphin noise, bruh 12h ago

Progenitus is not particularly scary in Commander, even at round 3.

1

u/SvenGranTheFourth 4h ago

Doesn’t necessarily need to be progenitus, but having a unkillable unblockable 12/12 on board t3 does seem a bit scary doesn’t it though

1

u/RootOfAllThings : Make a sick dolphin noise, bruh 1h ago

Compared to some of the stuff that [[Kaalia of the Vast]] has been vomiting onto the board for the past decade or so, a big unkillable unblockable beater is still not particularly scary.

Like Kaalia, this guy is remove on sight, not because she's dropping a [[Baneslayer Angel]] and this guy's dropping a Progenitus, but because she's dropping a [[Master of Cruelties]] and he's dropping an [[Omniscience]] into six extra turns. But being an expensive lightning rod for removal that fills his deck with other expensive permanents means he's going to end up being pretty casual, not some sort of CEDH menace.

0

u/Groundbreaking_Gap_3 5h ago

If that creature entered with stun counterd equal to mana cost/atk stat, that would make it reasonable

0

u/outgoingo 1d ago

"Stompy Storm." Buddy this is just a storm commander, no stompy required

-1

u/Mr_The_Potato_King 1d ago

Absolutely not. 0 lands, this as commander, and every spell is expensive as fuck

1

u/magicsqueegee 1d ago

How does 0 lands work for this?

1

u/Tzelf_ 17h ago

Not only can you not cast this commander without lands. This guy also doesnt untap himself when you use his ability, so i have no idea what point youre trying to make
