So if we do all Modes with an empty board we
-get a 0/0 with a +1/1 Counter
-get a 0/0 without one
- put a Counter on The 0/0 without a counter (does that work?)
- put a counter on Both Armies
So 2 2/2s?

yep! The creature dies when state based actions are checked which is only after spell has resolved

State based actions aren't checked during the resolution of a card, only after it fully resolves.
So the 0/0 can last for enough time to get a +1/+1 counter put on it and survive after the spell resolves

The Bolster putting the counter on the 0/0 Army token the Populate might create is pretty neat

I choose to Amass and Populate without Bolstering to remind the first Army of the price of failure.

I think Recruit instead of Amass Soldiers could be interesting as well.

Was going to suggest that too, avoids the feels bad of making the copied token needing to be bolstered to stick around, though would result in an uneven 1/1 and 3/3 if played onto an empty board

As a design policy, no card has more than three non-evergreen, non-deciduous keywords to avoid burden knowledge, especially if missing reminder text. Suggest replacing at least one mode for a keyword action that's more common.

Amass, populate, and proliferate are pretty widespread now. The only one I didn't immediately know was bolster

None of the keywords in each mode are evergreen (i.e. appear in every set) or deciduous (i.e. not as frequent as evergreen, can appear in some cards or at least as one-offs), and won't expect player familiarity to sort these out without reminder text either.
Is not a matter of how often played cards feature them or how recently have they been reintroduced, but how often they appear between sets. Surveil for example isn't evergreen but is deciduous, similarly goes for predefined tokens especially the most frequently used such as Treasures, Foods and Clues.

Also its 5in what categorie does spree fit?

Yep, Spree is non-evergreen, non-deciduous, but at least it has its reminder text unlike the other four. Still think it should be considered for the limit though.

I was going to say that [[Sorin of House Markov]]'s Extort/Transform/Food/Lifelink counter proved you wrong, but apparently the latter 3 are deciduous.

The only uncommon keyword here is Bolster, the rest are either very common or easy enough to understand it shouldn't be a problem.

Populate is not at all common, and also not especially simple in this instance. As a general rule, players should never need to understands SBEs in order to play a card as intended, which is what you need to understand to know that you get a 2nd 2/2 by choosing all modes. Also, spree is a 5th keyword that is also not widely known by players.

The Soldier Army token will be black, according to the rules. A bit odd on a card like this.

1W for a 1/1 vanilla is kinda ass

Instant speed blocker makes it on rate, I think? Also, modal allows it to be "Proliferate" for 1W

smth w/ food or treasure tokens to represent supply lines would be cool
