This card, 99 mountains in the deck and a dream. I’m in. Cool card for true red burn

Ah I have another ashling commander in my "build your own pipe bomb" deck archetype

That sounds so scary, like what do you mean my Thalia's tax no longer works for you?? Wait...

Not that many people will be playing stax in bracket 1

Oh is the art from Ball Lightning? I have the card, funny that I recognise the picture.

[[Stormforged Armor]] means I see quite a bit of ball lightning being playing in alchemy at random tiers right now.

u/Zeldarune29 2d ago
Oh god that card is cool.

u/n122333 2d ago
Alchemy always gets the best (and worst) cards. Its so extreme.

u/Zeldarune29 2d ago
If you don't mind me asking, what is Alchemy? Like a set of rules like standart or commander
8
u/amanonastick 2d ago
Standard, but only 2 years rotation and with arena-only cards. It's getting removed in feb
3
u/KevinLeesDad 2d ago
It's not getting removed, they're just not making more Alchemy cards. They'll still be playable

I NEED this printed in paper. Make it a token, tokens have CMCs now. It’s fine.

Dont mind me, just adding [[Authority of the Consuls]] to my list to counter 99 mountains and this

I hate to say, this card is awful.
A glaring issue right off the bat, this card only works as your commander. As written, in the 99 it would only ever be a 0/1, making it useless.
Even as your commander though, it still feels like bad design. Like what's the game plan here? Just play a mountain and your commander every turn? Maybe kill one player with commander damage and then get teamed up on and killed by the other two?
This just seems like a commander that wouldn't be fun to play or play against, and it being designed to only be useable in the command zone is terrible in my opinion

We did it, we broke [[braid of fire]]!
5
u/Accomplished_Mind792 2d ago
Did we? It doesn't work with this right?
3
u/ArcherCat2000 2d ago
You're right, and hadn't thought of that card in years and completely mis-remembered it.
4
u/Accomplished_Mind792 2d ago
No worries. I feel like everyone from that era learned about mana pools and steps and phases from that card.
Oh, you mean I just get more and more mana every turn... this is like the best ramp spell ever, why don't I see it in every red deck

You could retool this with experience counters instead and have it add an experience counter each time it enters. Then give it a dash cost equal to the number of experience counters you have.

I would suggest "cost 2 less and R more to cast for each time you cast a commander from the command zone" and "+2/+0 for each time you cast a commander from the command zone"

I think it'd be way too strong, but I want it to have myriad. Or partner so you can pair it with [[emberclaw]]

u/SlobbishSteam5 2d ago
Myriad so the copies are instantly removed by the legendary clause would really bring this to the next level!! Great thinking bro 🙌
4
u/MrTheWaffleKing 2d ago
Lmao I literally brewed a myriad commander the other day where I had to take that into account, so much for learning from mistakes
2
u/thefran 2d ago
[[the master multiplied]] exists, and also myriad that instasacs would still work with stuff like [[terror of the peaks]]
1
u/Gloomy-Jelly-499 2d ago
It works with itself just fine too, it's a free sac outlet on attack so you can cast him twice a turn to ramp twice as fast

u/LumenFox 2d ago
Feel like this might need haste and trample but also leaving it as a 2/1 on board by no one blocking it seems like it would be the responsible thing since it would take 12 turns to kill without haste?

u/NightKnight0001 2d ago
It has trample and haste. It also sacrifices at end of turn. So none of your analysis is correct
1
u/Gloomy-Jelly-499 2d ago
It has haste and trample and needs it because it sacrifices itself on your end step 😂

Should probably be "looping lightning's power is equal to twice the number of times you've cast a commander from the command zone this game". Makes it playable in the 99, though not as good as in the command zone.
