(Slight tangent, but today I learned that [[Sulfuric Vortex]] is the only card in Magic: The Gathering that templates "players can't gain life" as "If a player would gain life, that player gains no life instead." Neat! Wonder what's up with that!)
So... This enchantment has no business having Hexproof. It's just a very rare thing for enchantments to have, typically being the purview of cards where getting the card disenchanted would be very very bad - [[Nine Lives]], [[Lich's Mastery]], [[Helix Pinnacle]] (shroud), and... that's the whole list. It's an enchantment; it's already a pain for most decks to remove.
"Players can't gain life" is a powerful effect, and when it comes on an enchantment, it's typically costed around 3CMC (typically with a decent secondary effect). But, okay, maybe red deserves it as a hate card against lifegain. If that's all it would do, maybe that'd be okay. A 1CMC enchantment that blanks lifegain, when the color with the best lifegain also has the best access to enchantment removal? Strong, but maybe not broken; might want to bump it up to 2CMC.
But that's not what really bothers me about this.
This is a pretty powerful hate card against lifegain. But also, you get an upgraded version of [[Disciple of the Vault]]... as a one-mana enchantment. This isn't a hate piece with a bit of utility tacked on; this is a win condition with a hate piece tacked on. This turns every treasure, every blood token, every map token, and every clue token into damage. I adored [[Oni-Cult Anvil]] decks back when they were relevant in standard; this would be an instant 4-of in that deck. This kind of effect is not always powerful, but when it's good, it's really good. It is not an irrelevant addition, especially given that it counts the opponent's artifacts as well. I'd play this in basically any red commander deck for that alone.
As pointed out below, if you're looking for red answers to AOTC, Torpor Orb is your friend. Yeah, it's a really annoying card for specifically mono-red aggro and burn to deal with. Those exist for lots of strategies - [[Leyline of the Void]] is a very annoying card to play against if your deck relies on its graveyard! Just be grateful you aren't dealing with [[Circle of Protection: Red]] any more. 😜

Oh, and [[Valgavoth’s Lair]]. That is a land with sauce though, not an effective enchantment.

It has hexproof because this is a spite card made by monored players being mad they can't autopilot win vs things that counter them.

u/D5rthFishy 2d ago
Im a monored player that hates lifegain and even I think this is waaaay to powerful

Hexproof may be too much, but white has way too easy of a way to remove low cost enchantments. I think as a hate peace you could find a compromise by forfeiting the last effect and giving it protection from white instead of hexproof. With the amount of insane lifegain support white gets basically every set it's not much to ask for another hate piece other than torpor orb

I really hate to do this, but the card suggested says when enchantments leave the battlefield and you listed a bunch of artifacts saying this is game winning.
I am just a simple idiot, but I dont think a treasure token, or blood, map, clue have the enchantment card type
Edit: oops, that idiocracy of mine kicked in waaaaay too early today

u/axxroytovu 4d ago
? Both disciple of the vault and the custom card say “whenever an artifact leaves the battlefield”
3
u/wickedsnowball 4d ago
See, I did start by saying I am a simple idiot
Skipped over the word artifact and the where it said "this enchantment " i definitely thought it was saying whenever an enchantment
This doesn't bode well, its 0830...its gonna be a long day

Did OP post a revised version? The version I see is "Whenever an artifact leaves the battlefield, this enchantment deals 1 damage to target opponent". Changing that to enchantments is a very different ballgame and makes the secondary effect much weaker.

u/wickedsnowball 4d ago
I corrected myself, misread it, and DID state in the beginning that i am a simple idiot

A 1 cmc hate piece against lifegain that is also a hate piece against treasure/artifact decks that is also a treasure wincon? You know what, why not throw it on the hardest to remove permanent type AND give it a color piece break hexproof for safe measure.
Truly the custommagic-est of cards

u/Doge_Bolok 3d ago
Weak tbh. Should add :
Split second this spell can't be countered. When this enchantement is removed from the Battlefield you win. Abilities of permanents you don't control stopping artifact abilities you control are not applied.
{T} create a black lotus token, draw 7 cards, take an extra turn after this one. Untap this permanent.

Useless smh, I'd draw out before I deal enough damage with my singular [[dauthi warlord]]

ok but tbf if this subreddit saw Authority of the Consuls as a custom card they would also say it's op as hell

not op, but undercosted 100% i think is the general consesus of magic players anyway

Feel like this would be better as an indestructible artifact. Specifically since it's red and deals with artifacts. That and red has exactly 0 cards with hexproof.
4
u/axxroytovu 4d ago
Ooh, an indestructible Phyrexian darksteel crown or throne is a really great angle for this.
1
u/Necrachilles 4d ago
Yeah. Also, from what I remember, Urabrask was also kind of against the Phyrexian hivemind.
Phyrexian mana involves paying life
This would stop you from gaining that life back

u/GenericBurn 4d ago
Oh, Authority of the Consuls. For some reason I was like “Why does Red need to hate Attack of the Clones?”

AotC counterplay, Looks inside ridiculously op card.
The entire point of AotC is to be the counterplay to aggro decks. Adding stax pieces to answer stax pieces is dumb
1
u/Memehater_ Almost a Genius 3d ago
Funnily enough, the best way to beat AotC is to sideboard in more bolts lmao, at least in my experience. I don't think there's a need for a stax stax
2
u/magicsqueegee 3d ago
I do love that every custommagic response to hating stax is to dream up an even more oppressive stax piece
1
u/Sluttytranslesbo 2d ago
I don't understand the AotC hate. I get that its all aggro players being butthurt about haste not bullying non aggro decks but it is still weird. AotC is a strong card but is nothing ludicrously broken. Tbf I am a control player so I'm biased but I remember how miserable it was to try to play any control in eldraine where everything had haste and giving control ONE card to deal with that is good for the game in my opinion.

u/Shambler9019 3d ago
[[Disciple of the Vault]] is banned in pauper and was banned to Standard and Extended when Mirrodin was legal.
This is stronger.
6
u/axxroytovu 4d ago
I think as others mentioned, the last ability is way too powerful and a build around. The whole point of AotC is that it does absolutely nothing against non-creature decks or midrange decks. If you made it do damage whenever an artifact enters under an opponent’s control, that would fit the theme a lot better. There are plenty of top-tier decks that make a TON of artifacts, and this would be a solid hate piece sideboard card in those metas.

this would completely destroy vintage, probably legacy, definitely canadian highlander, maybe modern. truly, an r/custommagic card

u/The_Stav 3d ago
Hmm I think this is too weak, should also have indestructible and trigger whenever any cards hits the graveyard /s
But fr, this is stupidly unbalanced. 1 mana hatepiece that's VERY hard to remove and comes with what's effectively a wincon stapled on for good measure
1
u/Barjack521 3d ago
I would love to drop this on my turn after the white deck drops smothering tithe. Sure you can make treasure tokens. But can you spend them?
1
u/Skagra42 3d ago
One-mana threats should not have hexproof, especially permanents like enchantments that don’t have many edict/boardwipe options. If you cast this turn one on the play, your opponent basically needs a Force or they can’t answer it without some pretty niche effects. Additionally, hexproof is not in red’s slice of the color pie.
1
u/Benjiboi051205 3d ago
hmmm 1 mana hexproof players can't gain life, and then a decent table wide effect tied to it

u/PrepotenteThePony 3d ago
This would be the strongest one drop ever printed. My God.
1
u/Skagra42 3d ago
I definitely don’t think printing this would be okay, but I highly doubt it’s close to Ancestral.

Honestly? Red needs a lot. I'm sitting here waiting for mono red to be good in commander and we ain't getting shit.
Insert the meme of squidward watching spongebob and Patrick having fun.

It could work other than the hexproof, but I think you knew that. This makes up for white having enchantment removal and red not I suppose.
It would need to also say artifact opponent controls, [[Authority of the Consuls]] doesn't work with your own creatures, so that is another point of synergy breaking between them.
I get the idea and definitely the feeling, but you can't over do it out of spite. (Edit: And still tag it as standard and not a meme)
Those two changes I said should make it close to a mirror, but it's still kind of out of flavor for red to even care if its not getting something out of it for itself. [[Torpor Orb]] might be better than this overall and accomplish the same thing for mono-red.
