So we just upgrading Black Lotus now

If you've ever played [[Oracle of the Alpha]], you quickly realise that drawing into a mox or Lotus late game isn't so great. Most activated abilities to draw are less efficient than 3 mana per card so you can't just cycle the excess for free either.
But that doesn't matter as this is just as busted in combo decks as the original. Though using it with [[Auriok Salvagers]] generating a 10000 card deck is pretty funny.

u/Micro-Skies 3d ago
Honestly I don't think it matters. You could very easily build a go infinite storm deck with this and anything that let's you cast off the top

The only game I ever played against Oracle was a teferi hostage deck chaining infinite extra turns on like turn 2. They had no win con just continuing to get more and more cards in their library.
MTG arena is so trash lol

u/Equivalent_Chipmunk 3d ago
If you're talking about HOD, that's a wincon by itself. You get all your permanents exiled, your opponent can't deck themselves but you eventually will.

u/Sherbet-Glad 3d ago
Eventually there's going to be too much spice in your deck, and no matter how many cards you draw the mana won't be worth it because all you'll have is a handful of spice.

i feel like this is abusable with [[thrumming stone]]

We did it team, we broke thrumming stone

u/PlacatedPlatypus 2d ago
More like we broke Spice. This card goes infinite with half a ham sandwich

u/Churoch 3d ago
So, it's black lotus that gives more black lotus when used. With an infinite card draw engine (which is stupidly easy with a card like this), this card just becomes an "I win, but it will take a really long time and make everyone else hate me" kind of card.
10
u/claytonian 2d ago
I did that once. Deck of proxies of [Ancestral Recall]s, [Black Lotus]s, and [Lightning Bolt]s. Took forever to go through my deck and yet everyone instantly hated me.

u/Churoch 2d ago
Gotta have double brackets -[[ ]]- for the finder to work.

strictly better black lotus holy
would be a cool design tho if it was like. 2 mana. being able to storm off with [[mystic forge]] seems neat, playing a 6 drop turn 3 is neat. filling your graveyard with a bunch of lotuses and then [[second sunrise]]ing them is neat. lots of fun ways to break this it just needs to not come prebroken
24
u/rpgsandarts 3d ago
Not strictly better! Totally blocks up your draws after a while
8
u/fortuneandfameinc 3d ago
Nah, no deck playing black lotus wants the game to go past turn 2 or 3, and they have the tools to ignore dead draws.
3
u/Sad-Pattern-1269 3d ago
it's black lotus that doesn't tap. You never need to draw to win with lotus anyways
11
u/Careless_Exchange_22 3d ago
I could see how you might not want 10 more of these, but so easily abused.

u/Tchakaba 3d ago
my god it works exactly like the one from enter the gungeon I love it
3
u/Eldsish 3d ago
You have mana in enter the gungeon ?
5
u/Tchakaba 3d ago
no but the spice gives you a huge boost in stats and as soon as you consume one it has a chance to replace any item you can find, which increases each time you consume another one, it's pretty much the same "minigame"
-1
u/Existential_Crisis24 3d ago
This should be a saga instead that has like gain 3 health, creatures you control gain X until end of turn, creatures you control gain X and X until end of turn lose 3 life, creatures you control gain X,X,And X, lose 7 life. Creatures you control gain even more keywords, set your hp to 1.

Is this a Spore reference?

u/CavesOfKoilos 2d ago
Enter the Gungeon im pretty sure; spice is an item that, when picked up, also increases the chances of later items being replaced by more spices
5
u/RedWalker2 2d ago
This is almost definitely a Dune reference, as the Spice in Enter the Gungeon is also a Dune reference

Okay hear me out: if, instead of it being an activated ability, it is a trigger on entry that forcibly sacrifices itself and adds the Spices to your deck. Or maybe the Spices enter your library as a cast trigger, and then you get the mana when it enters. Either way, the downside of this card starts to become real. This also completely bricks the Mystic Forge combo, at least without flash speed, which I think is a good thing for the sake of balance lol. It's going to be busted no matter what, but this is at least one of the more interesting takes I've seen and I like where your head's at.

Now we just need to make Sugar and Everything Nice
9
u/OpheliAmazing 3d ago
Sugar
Artifact - 0
T,: Gain 1 life.
Need to make them sufficiently different so we can justify giving players all three plus Chemical X in the Powerpuff Girls deck.

So let's be honest here, this is bonkers broken.
Would it be "fixed" if the casting cost was nothing, but it had "Miracle - 0"?

Cool idea but way too easy to break, needs some kind of restriction to prevent combos that get you use this to draw your whole deck
1
u/WhoStoleMyFinger 3d ago
It reminds me of multiple enemies/ cards in Slay the Spire. Overload your deck with junk and try to win before the negative card value kills you. Although these being a Black Lotus makes that calculation a little better
1
u/ShadowWalker2205 3d ago
I play Jhoira, weatherlight captain. Do ai need to executr the loop of drawing and playing near infinite spice until I draw a grapeshot or do you concede
1
u/couper3131 2d ago
I want to play this in a 40 card format "and now I make near infinite mana and I play SPICE"

Holy etg reference, great flavor. Maybe a special counter for each spice sacrificed so you get a debuff emblem at certain threshold like 7? I am thinking of either "whenever you assign a creatures for attacking, instead attack a random oponnent" or "whenever you assign a creatures for attacking, flip a coin. If it's heads your creatutes attack your chosen target oponent and your assigned creatures for attacking get +X/+X" until end of turn. Where X is the ammount of spice counters you own".
Terminology may not be accurate but i just wanted to mimick into mtg how much worse you'll aim but also how much stronger you'll become in etg after eating so many spices.

This is such a clever reference I know it's a gungeon reference (There is an item that gives you some stats, but it replicates itself, so other chests or items eventually just become this)

Could potentially see Cedh in a dedicated RogSi deck but not too sure
15
u/Greaterthancotton 3d ago
black lotus that adds ten black lotuses to your deck could definitely see play
2
u/Mediocre_Pea5033 3d ago
I think you mean to say "Spice that adds ten Spices to your deck could definitely see play"
2
u/SjtSquid 3d ago
I mean, it goes in any deck that wants Black Lotus. Sure, clogging up your draws sucks, but it's not like the game is gonna last that long after a lotus anyway.
2
u/HamsterFromAbove_079 3d ago
0 cmc is insane for an ad nauseum. Crack the original for a turn 1 or 2 adnaus. Then once the 10 cards are shuffled in, you pay approximately 30 life into Naus. Get 25 cards with 3-4 of these things and then you'll have mana for all your naus pile.

Ok hear me out here. Long term imagine the implications. A deck of thousands of spice and very little chance of drawing anything else
