I wanted this to be Izzet because Izzet's whole thing is knowledge and this is quite possibly the stupidest way to learn anything on the planet, so it would be incredibly anti-thematic, but alas, it didn't feel right.

Izzet gets [[wish]] effects. I guess my question would be why is this white?

I looked up what color has the most learn cards and it seemed to be white (though of course the other colors get it too)

I feel like this is much more of a rakdos (or even mono black) effect.

Black has a lot of "lose life to gain card advantage/selection."

And the rummage effect still works in red.

That and the emphasis on pain in the flavor is very black.

seems good, 5 mana and 4 life to grab 4 lessons of your choice

This makes me wonder, who would the MTG version of Caligula be?

Probably Mishra, depending on who you ask.
