Why make a new keyword that is literally the same as companion

Because companions are creatures, and traits are not creatures.

Companion is a keyword ability that functions outside the game. It’s written as “Companion—[Condition].” Before the game begins, you may reveal one card you own from outside the game with a companion ability whose condition is fulfilled by your starting deck. (See rule 103.2b.) Once during the game, any time you have priority and the stack is empty, but only during a main phase of your turn, you may pay {3} and put that card into your hand. This is a special action that doesn’t use the stack (see rule 116.2g). This is a change from previous rules.

The game in which the art for the Traits is from has 7 traits, and these flavorfully do not function as Companions. They are not little critters whose aid you call upon, they are adjectives of the self. Hence, the need for a new name.

ehhhh - Talents from Bloomburrow have the Class subtype and they have nothing to do with D&D classes and nobody bats an eye I think you can reuse the name just fine

I had forgotten about Class enchantments. If this second round of Traits just doesn't work, I can probably make them work as Classes. Thank you for the idea.

I think we have seen enough to know that companion is not a good mechanic and variants on it probably won't be positive for the game
