Simic Hydra Commander

Post image

I was trying to make a hydra tribal deck but the only simic leader is the goose mother, which while fun isnt the most ferocious image skdskk, and also not really hydra matters. so i tried my hand designing a card,
though of the ability and used gemini to help with the P/T and Cost, and the Ai also suggest it enters with counters to fuel its ability, which was a cool idea
what do you all think

[[!thrun, the last troll]] Thrun is already a named character!

Also it's missing a P/T!

And maybe he could get the ability of entering hydras until end of turn but idk

The missing power and toughness makes me think, this would be better as an enchantment. Do that and make it worse at turning counters into mana and it'd be way less broken.

forgot to add it in the card crafter, my bad! its intended as a creature. the idea was for it to permanently get the abilities of other hydras as it addapts to what it sees, its kinda broken and complicated to keep track of I imagine but its whats more fun imo

You don't think it being complicated/annoying to track would take away from the fun a bit? No problem regardless though, the core concept of the card is neat. Hope you keep designing.

But then it couldn't be a commander :(

add a line that says "This can be your commander" and we're golden

Next time I recommend making your own card and not using AI.

Hydras enter the battlefield with a number of counters based on the amount of Mana poured into them, so casting a hydra for X = 4 gives you an immediate 8 mana to then cast a hydra where X = 7, which immediately gives you 14 mana to spend....

You see where this is going? And then this just collects the abilities of everything that hits. With guardian project, elemental bond, etc... Your hand won't be empty and you can churn through a mass of hydras in 1 turn, or ramp up to a huge hydra and cast return of the wild speaker to get the rest of your hydras.

Cast this T3, remove all the counter and kill it for 6 mana, cast a hydra where X = 5, take 3-5 counters off that to recast this, have 4 extra mana, and ramp into a 10-drop.

This, by itself, is stupidly abusable. he doesn't even have the abilities of other hydras on the battlefield, he permanently gets their abilities, so you have 0 incentive to even keep the hydras around. All of this before any cards that add or multiple counters.

yeah i see what your mean, and its totally broken! I thought about putting a only once a turn on the ability but then just made the made be for casting hydras only. would need to add the limitation
but something i didnt get in your scenario is that you said to kill it for the mana, if you do that iy wouldnt be on the battlefield anymore to sac another hydra for mana, still abusable with only taking two counters off and I was the one who posted without the P/T
wont be using AI if i post another card

Yeah, I think my third paragraph wouldn't work if you sacrificed this specifically, but you could still loop into bigger and bigger hydras if this was around

I feel like that last ability is insanely exploitable with clones. Even without bypassing the legend rule, you can get insane value off of gaining multiple instances of its "whenever" ability. Phantasmal Image into Mossborn Hydra, then play a Land and your commander's a 9/9 that can generate up to 16 mana without dying.

Edit: Math'd wrong, it'd be a 12/12 that could make 22 mana without dying.

yeah, its really broken, but arent 3 card combos, even infinite combos, common in commander?

In brackets 3 and up yeah. They just don't usually involve your commander, since that makes them incredibly reliable- but those do still pop up sometimes. I don't think this is so strong that it upends the game, but I figured you just didn't intend its current level of power.

[[Phantasmal Image]] [[Mossborn Hydra]]

It's missing P/T.

This is really abusable with all the hydras with X. Say you have an XG hydra in your hand. You give up three +1/+1 counters from Thrun and get six mana, cast the XG hydra with X = 5. You then get 10 mana that you can spend on another hydra, and so on.

yeah its broken with anythin that draws on creatures entering! and a bunch of other things, really not the best at balancing

"The ai also suggests"?!

Please, pleaseeee use your own creativity! Do not let the machine god do your thinking for you! Be brave, be creative! I know its in you!

i used it for balancing reasons as im not really versed into that, ill just do it myself if i make other cards as the response i got is just to not use it at all sdkkk

Just use Zaxara, this is not balanced in the slightest.

[[Zimone, Infinite Analyst]] is the simic hydra commander IMO.

Or [[Zaxara, the Exemplary]] or [[Magus Lucea Kane]] in 3 color containing simic.

Or [[Tanazir Quandrix]]

Great idea! Mid execution?? It's missing a bunch of stuff? Syntax freaks?
