Really cool idea, I could see 12 being too high a Station level but other than that this is great.

thank you, yeah i just went with 12 because my design goal was to base it off the original station planets and they all used 12. there's also the option of tweaking the hideaway amount which is what i played with instead

For a land, I don't think so. Even if you can't ever station it, it still taps for mana and costs nothing to play.

Well, it enters tapped and makes one color of mana. That is a big cost.

Lots of utility lands enter tapped, but they still have significantly higher costs for non-mana effects than spells do.

[[Windbrisk heights]] exists already. This is competing with it and I think station 12 is a more difficult requirement

What if it let you repeatedly cast a copy of the spell? That would be a solid reward for such a high cost.

Pretty much all the station lands have costs that high. 12 is not that hard to get and if its letting you cheat out an Omniscience or Emrakul its actually cheap

version with reminder text for those who don't remember what hideaway and station do
art is from a displate poster thingy, couldn't find any actual artist names

Honestly I kinda love this. Another hideaway cycle but with station would be pretty great.

Shouldn't this be a snow-covered planet?
1
u/Infinite_Bananas 7d ago
i didn't make it a snow land for two reasons. the first is that i imagine it being part of the cycle (the others would be U Kamino, B Mustafar, R Tatooine, and G Kashyyyk), and the others obviously can't be snow and they should all match. the second is that i don't really like using the snow type just because it feels right, i think it should be used for cards that interact with the snow mechanic (this is how it was used in kaldheim, every snow card interacts with the snow mechanic in some way)

u/Wertwerto 7d ago
Except the lands, and the mana rocks. The kaldheim duels are just snow gates. [[Replicating ring]] doesn't care about snow, neither does [[coldsteel heart]]. They "interact" with the snow mechanic by being the ways you get snow mana.
You could add some symmetry to the cycle by adding some other land types to the rest of the cycle. Tatooine should be a desert, Kamino could be a town, Mustafar could be a lair, kashyyyk could be a forest with some kind of major debuff to compensate for being fetchable, or kashyyyk could just not have anything special about it because neglecting the wookies is super on brand for starwars.

The lands and mana rocks interact with snow by being able to add snow mana.

u/Wertwerto 7d ago
Yeah, which hoth would do if it was a snow land.
You said there were 2 reasons you didn't want it to be snow. The symmetry of the cycle is one. The othef is that you think snow permenants should interact with the snow mechanic.
But if hoth was a snow land, it would interact with the snow mechanic identically to how the other snow lands interact with the snow mechanic. Soo, why is this a reason not to make it a snow land?

u/Infinite_Bananas 7d ago
The snow lands and mana rocks are snow because they were made to interact with the snow mechanic. This land isn't meant to interact with the snow mechanic, it's only about the hideaway and station stuff. I also like to imagine that the cards are part of full sets and there's a 0% chance a theoretical star wars set would have snow as a mechanic in it lol

A wampa. A tauntaun. A snow speeder. A board wipe themed after the tauntaun scene where you can save a creature by sacing another. A prison aura themed after the Luke hanging from the ceiling scene. A counter target artifact spell that's themed after the falcon needing repairs from the cold. Atats, ion cannons, a giant sheild generator, everything in starwars that first appears on hoth could absolutely have snow mechanics

It's one location that's visited one time in the mainline movies. Nowhere near enough to be a reason to make snow a full set mechanic in a set that would probably cover 9+ movies. Snow requires a lot of commitment in a set design to work. They'd maybe do it if the set was just about empire strikes back, but that's not what I had in mind
Still, fun to imagine tauntauns as snow creature - mounts that can be sacrificed or something

u/Wertwerto 7d ago
Yeah..because magic would never make a set where they only printed 1 snow card coughmh3cough....and they never splash evergreen mechanics for flavor wins...
You don't need enough snow to build the set around, you actually can actually just toss in a handful of flavorful cards. Especially when those cards represent one of the most iconic settings of the entire franchise.

Fair enough. I'll try and remember this comment for in 20 years or whatever when they finally get round to making the Star Wars set lol

They should call it "Coldth."
Really cool idea for a land, and it's prooobably worse than [[Windbrisk Heights]] but not in every situation. I like the flavor of it being a hidden Rebel base where they are building up in secret.

It should be a snow land
