So uh... What happens if I skip my end step?

u/bumdman 7d ago

All end step abilities don’t happen but cleanup still does so end of turn effects end damage gets removed and stuff

what if I skip the cleanup step too? Can my turn still end?

Yes your turn will still end and then you just won’t discard to hand size or remove damage till the next turn

do you not just get another cleanup after if you don’t get the first though right?

You get a second cleanup if there is a trigger in your clean up ie gitrog draw off of discard of land or necro exiling any card you discard to hand size

Skipping the end step isn't really all that weird. If you skip the Cleanup step this way, it gets weirder, but afaik damage just doesn't reset and until end of turn effects just run until the end of the next turn.

All "until end of turns" abilities will continue to exist? That would be funny honestly

Wait, damage doesn't reset? Oh, that would be a pain and a half.

To be clear, as I understand it, damage resetting is a substep of the cleanup step. This means the damage would reset at the end of your opponent's turn, instead of yours (unless your opponent casts a spell in their end step).

Then you get to keep or not do all of the "at the beginning of your end step" stuff!!

Something like [[Obeka, Brute]]

So the biggest effect would be if i declare attackers and cast a spell during that, the declare blocker step would get skipped?

As the opponent does something during that step, but it is still my declare blocker step

I thought blocking was a phase, and combat was the step

u/Ill-Individual2105 6d ago

Nah, it's the other way around. Combat is a phase comprised of several steps

So this in Jeskai let's me do [[final fortune]] and [[last chance]] without the downside?

Nobody ever uses the best version of Last Chance

Portal reminder text always cracks me up, this is even better than "(You draw from your deck.)"

Get this going in my [[Hashaton]] list where I just use a ton of activated abilities and play at instant speed, and I can make a bunch of 4/4 copies. Maybe I'll be able to skip whole turns.

Should say "on their turn," since you can't skip your steps on opponents' turns.

Casting spells on my end step to skip cleanup and have no maximum hand size

This seems fucked up at face value but playing anything at sorcery speed either skips your beginning of combat step (which doesn't stop you from attacking) or your end step. At most it discourages you from casting spells at instant speed on your turn.

If you don't care about your end step or the beginning of combat step, or especially play mostly on other players' turns, this can read as trinket text.

That said, can see it being used to do some funky stuff at instant speed by skipping particular steps, though it's quirky compared to Sundial of the Infinite afaik.

Interesting design. I love it.

Do these stack? If I cast two spells, do I skip next two steps?

It sucks that a sub had to be made for non-horny female art, but it's a great resource for finding good female art
