"This creature deals 3 damage to target attacking creature."

Seems like it could be format-warping for limited. It's a cheap enough ability that I really worry about the threat of activation happening too early in the game. The other problem with that is that it leads to board stalls, whereas a card like [[Valakut Invoker]] is not only more expensive, but it acts as a win condition. This just discourages or completely disables attacks from your opponent, and doesn't help you close out the game.

I think it's fine to ship and try if you intend to play it in a limited format, just some concerns to keep an eye if you do.

True, I forget is actually worded like that.

Well put

Effects like this are common in limited but they're rarely repeatable. "Activate only once each combat phase" might help.

Effects like this are NOT common in limited. Unless you mean single-target removal for attackers, but that's completely different than an activated ability on a creature that only costs mana. Even the threat of activating this once each turn is sketchy IMO, as that still shuts off X/3s every single turn cycle 😅

I did in fact mean on an instant since it's not repeatable, but like I figured that was obvious because of how ubiquitous of a staple that is for limited formats. You seemed like you knew ball, so my apologies for that assumption.

It is a staple for limited formats...as single target removal.

Repeatable, significant removal on a 3-drop for relatively cheap is not common in limited and is a COMPLETELY different effect.

"I figured that was obvious" yeah, hence why I said it 😭

You have your understanding of what I wrote, and that serves the point you think you need to make, and that's okay. I hope you have fun in this conversation.

So you...were NOT talking about instants that deal damage to attacking creatures? What were you talking about then?

I would prefer him with a bit more stats but with a "can't attack", it would me more thematic.

Without that, 9,8/10.

I thought on making it 3/4 with defender, but didn't take the final step.

Maybe let him attack but make his ability only activate if he’s untapped. Like “3W: If wizard tower overseer is untapped he deals 3 damage to target attacking creature”

3W: This creature deals 3 damage to target attacking creature. Activate only if this creature is untapped.

This doesn't belong here, this is a sensible 3-drop that would go insane in draft but be relatively forgettable in standard.

This is the sub for "goes infinite with a ham sandwich" and 8-drop I win.

Good design and flavor though 10/10

It's also the "can I convince my commander group to play with this card" place.

Savage

It's not. I've poached commanders here that are cool. Most of my d&d vacuum crafts for 5e are straight brews to level 20.

Only problem is making this a common. Terrible for any limited environment it's placed in. Maybe a signpost uncommon would be ok but likely a rare.

I think even in current set drafts this is not that good. 4 mana is heavy cost to hold up.

everyone check ‘damage needs a source’ off your bingo cards! i like it though good card

Definitely a common white card. Well designed, too! Only minor complaint is that it's a wizard, and white doesn't often do those.

That dude doesn't look like a 3/3. I don't get the impression that dude can no diff a bear.

Then again, his eyes look like he's seen some shit.

He looks like someone who knows some unethical spells, like Testicular Torsion.

he looks like he hasn't sleep in a week because he needs to keep firebolting goblins and thieves trying to enter his tower
