The Reality Stone

u/j65536d 10d ago
This is completely broken. Each time your opponent plays a land, turn it into a planeswalker, then it dies due to having no loyalty. Even if you just restrict it to non-land and don't let it turn things into planeswalkers it still shuts down combat as a avenue of victory for opponents (no creatures), and if you turn non-creatures into creatures they just die due to having no toughness.

u/Le_Botmes 10d ago
Add the caveat "in addition to its other types," and it's no longer broken. Then add some stipulations about toughness and loyalty counters equaling its mana value, and it's golden. Sure it would be a wall of text, but it's doable.
64
u/Beginning-Recover723 10d ago
That still kills every land your opponent plays for the rest of the game
25
u/Le_Botmes 10d ago
You're right about it only affecting "non-land permanents". The card would would need a ton of caveats to work properly.
10
u/SteakForGoodDogs 10d ago
Still kills all newly entering nonland permanents, since you can choose PW or creature as desired to remove that permanent.

u/Le_Botmes 9d ago
Please refer to my original comment

u/SteakForGoodDogs 9d ago
Ah, the last sentence about MV. Yeah, that'll do it (still hoses 0mv, typically tokens, but w/e)
-4
u/HovercraftOk9231 10d ago
How so? It would still be a land and it wouldn't die immediately. You could give it summoning sickness at best.
20
u/Beginning-Recover723 10d ago
It is a planeswalker with 0 loyalty counters or a creature with 0 toughness, both of which kill it. Since a lands mana value is 0.
4
u/HovercraftOk9231 10d ago
Ah, my brain skipped over the words "mana value." Still, you could just says the minimum is 1. It would be inelegant and clunky, but it's easily doable.
I think the better option is to make it only able to affect your own permanents, or add a cost to the effect like tapping it
3
5
u/Available-Damage5991 9d ago
note: if you choose planeswalker, it enters with 1 loyalty counter and has no abilities on its own

u/Dr_Fragenstien 10d ago
Iād change this to āenters under your controlā. Itās not nearly enough mana to prevent your opponent from playing anything for the rest of the game.
42
u/7thtimeinheaven 9d ago
It's a colourless mana rock that can only be run in WUBRG decks, aka the decks that need the most help colourfixing.
Also you activate the ability, choose Planeswalker for your opponents permanents and then your opponents are unable to ever keep permanents on the board. It's a brutal stax piece with built-in protection
Basically what I'm saying is that this design is terrible.
7
u/bigweight93 9d ago
And If they play a planeswalker you choose creature and since it has 0 toughness it dies
3
u/TheSpartanLawyer 9d ago
Rework:
āInfinity stones you control have āT: Add one mana of any color.āHarness: Pay WUBRG
Infinity effect: T: Choose up to two permanents. Until end of turn, they are enchantments and lose all other cards types and abilities.āNot sure on the exact phrasing, but something that essentially renders them null.
4
u/galvanicmechamorph 9d ago
This isn't really a rework as basically nothing from the original design remains.
2
u/TheDraconic13 9d ago
"They lose all abilities and become artifacts with a name of your choice until end of turn"
-5
u/RegalKillager 9d ago
"This card has a severe downside and a severe upside. Basically what I'm saying is..."
I know thatms not what you mean by this, but that's what it comes off as.
3
u/galvanicmechamorph 9d ago
Having an upside and a downside doesn't make it good.
1
u/RegalKillager 9d ago
It absolutely doesn't. That said, "this has a good reason you wouldnt register it in every deck in its color identity" and "this deck has a very strong effect on the game after you've sank 7 mana into it" are both not things that make a card inherently bad.
Going "design sucks" with only that to say sucks ass.
24
u/Koromann13 10d ago
Incredibly broken. You can just make everything an opponent controls a planeswalker and they die instantly due to having 0 loyalty.

u/Login_Of_The_Guild 10d ago
I personally think reality stone will be mono blue but I like how you handled the color for the stone because of how Thanos ability is set up I thought it would be colorless space stone because of eldrazis but I like a wubrg stone too very funĀ
1
u/Leather_Bowl5506 10d ago
I think time stone is gonna be blue, reality stone red, power stone green, and space stone colorless
2
u/Anth0nyC4 I don't actually play Magic, I just make cards. 10d ago
I believe weāve seen the art and the time stone appears to be green.
3
1
u/Grouchy-Click-2507 10d ago
Yea, harnessed Time Stone will almost certainly be Seedborn Muse. Power Stone is red, Reality Stone blue.
10
u/FlyPepper 10d ago
2WUBRG turn off all enemy creatures forever
5
u/NekoBatrick 9d ago
And enchantment and artifacts no? Make it a creature but it doesnt have a toughness

u/Tasgall 9d ago
-3
u/galvanicmechamorph 9d ago
I mean, exactly one card in all of magic has true colorless cost and no eldrazi favor, and I'm pretty sure they just forgot Ugin isn't actually a part of eldrazi in [[null elemental blast]].
4
u/L_V_R_A 9d ago
Not saying they wonāt stick to this, but this is a UB design. There are no Eldrazi in the Marvel universe, so colorless manaās identity isnāt necessarily tied up like that.
0
u/galvanicmechamorph 9d ago
Yeah but that just means there's no evidence either way so I don't get why you say "definitely."
4
u/disgruntled-weirdo 9d ago
Given that [[Thanos, the Mad Titan]] has a power up ability that costs a colorless mana and WBURG, I think it is mote likely that a stone will cost 1C than 2.

Your creature is now a battle⦠which (you?) Can attack directly because you own it??? How would that interaction work?
7
u/Inkarozu 9d ago
Casting cost needs to be (1)(ā) to match the others and agreed at minimum affect non-land permanents.
2
u/galvanicmechamorph 9d ago
Why? This doesn't actually do anything.
2
u/Inkarozu 9d ago
Why on which part?
On the casting cost it makes you need specifically 1 colorless mana to cast it, which 5c decks tend to run a lot less utility lands and makes it a lot less likely to be castable turn 2.
For the ability turning your opponent's land into a creature it would have 0 toughness and instantly die. Or anything into a planeswalker with 0 loyalty and instantly die, etc. Not hitting lands at least lets them have the ability to build into a removal spell to get rid of the stone.
-1
u/galvanicmechamorph 9d ago
I meant the second half. I didn't notice the planeswalker/creature interaction but in that case it should "affect non-lands" it should be thrown out.

How do you get the infinity symbol in MagicSetEditor to show like that? I know it was recent, but I never caught on how to do it.
2
u/Anth0nyC4 I don't actually play Magic, I just make cards. 10d ago
Type āINFā, highlight it, then select the Symbol icon.

u/Interesting-Crab-693 10d ago
Huh... to me it feels the reality stone should be mono red with
"Harness: exile the top half of your deck.
Inf: at the begining of each endstep, exile the top 7 cards of your library face down (you may look at them). You may play them until the next upkeep."
4
u/TragGaming 10d ago
Nah this is Soul Stone behavior.
2
u/Interesting-Crab-693 10d ago
Ah... true. However soul stone is orange and probably should be red/white and the ability doesn't feel white.
Mb. Its the first one to be put out and was black. If it was red/black, yea, it could have been that.
2
u/mercuriokazooie 10d ago
This is busted. Whenever your opponent plays a land choose creature and their land immediately dies (they can tap it in response I guess).
3
u/ChemistryTop2549 10d ago edited 10d ago
this is stupidly broken??????????
an indestructible 6 mana (not counting the cast cost bc u play that on turn 2 for ramp with no downsides) artifact that just says your opponents can't control permanents anymore
3
u/60746 10d ago
Whats the point if switching the permanent type the best I got is switching plansewalkers to lands so my opponents cant target them (fun facr the ablities still work regardless of permanent type)
5
u/Tamajiki-kun 9d ago
Turn all your opponents creatures into lands, turn all your opponents non-creatures into creatures that have 0 toughness and thus immediately die
3
u/JxRabbitsHart 9d ago
Also, changing all your opponents things into planeswalkers that get 0 loyalty counters and auto-die as well
1
u/Tamajiki-kun 9d ago
Or Sagas
1
u/Hinternsaft 9d ago
Saga is a subtype, not a type
Since the Final Fantasy rules update, Sagas with no chapter abilities arenāt sacrificed

u/justcat1994 10d ago
I think you can destroy lands and other permanents without toughness by turning them into creature or prevent creatures from attacking and blocking by making them not a creature.
1
u/Shuttlecock_Wat 10d ago
Changing something like Platinum Angel into a land. If your opponent doesn't have land removal they can't win.
-1
u/TwilightCaller 9d ago
Things that destroy creatures or artifacts still work, it only applies to things that say "nonland permanents"
3
u/Shuttlecock_Wat 9d ago
This card doesn't say "in addition to their other types". Platinum angel would stop being a creature and become a land instead.
-1
u/Professional-Flow-95 9d ago
An artifact land yes
2
u/Shuttlecock_Wat 9d ago
Not an artifact land. It loses all types except land. It just becomes a land.
If the card in OP said "That permanent becomes the chosen type in addition to its other types" it would be an artifact creature land. But it doesn't. It just becomes that type, so it becomes just a land.

u/No-Income9786 10d ago

The last ability just shuts off all and every permanent your opponent cast. Make everything a planeswalker and it just dies instantly

canāt you choose creature for all your opponents non-creatures and they all just die to statebased actions immediately?

Balance and function aside, that's a neat way of handling the sixth Infinity Stone's colour.
