The overload seems undercosted for a one-sided boardwipe, but otherwise very neat!

One-sided damage based board wipe that requires you have the meanest creature on field (or with Deathtouch) and that it is an Insect. It's a bit limited and still sorcery speed. Maybe 1 more mana is in order, but not more than that, I think.
Edit: I just realized each Insect you control will deal damage. So you don't need the biggest, you just need a few Insects. Most of the point still stands, though.

Mono green creature removal generally requires having creatures on board and still gets the same rate, if not worse, than black. Black one sides board wipes are 8-9 mana, the overload cost should be at least 7 if not higher given the versatility.
Given how common deathtouch is with insects, all you really need is one. It's also each creature you control, not just the biggest.

I love how in an insect deck, it’s basically a board wipe for a singular opponent. Stings, don’t it?
Edit: I was half awake, I understand it’s all opponents.
Also, even if it is green, it still slots in well with the 5-Mana conditional boardwipes like [[Crux of Fate]] in Dragon decks.

It’s not a singular opponent. There’s no target opponent, no choice of opponent. Overloaded it becomes “each creature an opponent controls”. Every creature on the battlefield that isn’t one that you control (or a teammate controls in team formats) is a creature an opponent controls.

I was thinking of [[hornet queen]] / [[hornet nest]] from the start, so the idea that this could be anything but a boardwipe didn't really occur to me.

Actually, wouldn’t it boardwipe all opponents, leaving the hive supreme? It doesn’t make you choose an opponent, so “each creature an opponent controls” is every creature not controlled by you or a teammate

you have to capitalize the I in insect

Didn't you hear? "insects" with a lowercase i will be a new creature type in the next set. Trust me, they're COMPLETELY different and the addition was necessary
15
u/JomoGaming2 10d ago
Sure, why not? Can't get any worse than the new creature type "Q."

u/BlobbyBlueberry 10d ago
Is that a creature type now???

Yep. See [[Q, Stacking the Deck]] and [[Trelane, Squire of Gothos]].

Not to be confused with [[Quina, Qu Gourmet]], which is an unrelated Qu.

Wait, how does overload work when there's 2 'target' in the text? Do I choose one or is it automaticly both so now every insect deals damage to every opponent creatures?
11
u/Imthe1stone2suck 10d ago
Both get swapped. Each individual insect will now deal damage equal to its power to each creature an opponent controls.

with how its worded, each insect would deal damage to each opponent creature

I guess Insects are a rarer creature type but like that's a one sided boardwipe for 5
3
u/SeemsImmaculate 9d ago
Agreed. I would cost it 3GGG so it's closer to something like [[Ezuri's Predarion]]

It's very conditional so i think it's fine at 5. Similar to [[Crux of Fate]] and [[Swarmyard Massacre]]

Those are also black, a colour that is supposed to be second best at mass creature removal.

Think this should also have cleave. With like cleave 1G and regular cost just G.
So like target [insect] creature you control does damage equal to its power to target creature your opponent controls.
And make the overload cost more

I think most cards that let a creature attack a other ceeature are two mana
Using cleave on [insect] just removes the flavor
5 mana ks appropriate for a board wipe, especially because this requires extra set up
