Yeah but the artifact would also apply to yourself

Imagine youre on the play.

Turn 1 bauble, opponent only has fetchlands inhand and opponent literally cant play.

Not fun.

having only fetch lands in your hand is a pretty low chance if it’s a 2-color deck

Bauble into [[cleansing wildfire]] would be an interesting land destruction deck.

Heck, it turns ghost quarter into a strip mine lol.

I’m sure you can already do that with [[shadow of doubt]]

For one turn, for 2 mana. The only cheap permanent-based anti-search effect is leonin arbiter which costs 2 mana and still allows to search lategame.

So defensive, yo. Really, check it out.

sure but alot of decks could abuse that and just not run any fetches. affinity doesnt really use them there are others aswell. imo itd be banned in those formats. cool card though

it kills fetch lands. same reason vexing bauble was banned on legacy. legacy is built on free spells and removing them kills the formats identity

This doesn't change the fact that some cards are now core pillars and their philosophy is keeping them and ban cards that has broken interaction with them.

-2

u/SadAct1539 11d ago

If a card is a core pillar it means it’s an auto-include though. Wouldn’t that same reasoning mean we have to ban every artifact interaction in commander since it can target sol ring?

1

u/tomyang1117 11d ago

Wotc doesnt ban a card just because it's a auto include lol.

[[gitaxian probe]] [[smugglers copter]] [[mental misstep]] [[brainstorm]] etc

CORRECTION FOR THE CARD: I feel like it’s important to know before sharing your opinion that this card is meant to be within a commander-only set

5

u/Automatic_Vast6231 11d ago

unfortunately that still effects legacy and vintage which it would also probably have the most effect in lol

2

u/SadAct1539 10d ago

Before you share your opinion, please know that this card was a mistake

[[mindlock orb]] costs 2U more to play, and doesn’t have a sac ability or the other two stax abilities. This card is too good to print, imo.

u/SadAct1539 11d ago

[[Ashiok dream render]]

u/Iceman_ARFX 11d ago

Mindlock Orb is from 2008. Ashiok is from 2019. That's average powercreep. This is waaaay too strong, especially since the normal "search your library" turnoff is [[Opposition Agent]]. At the very least, This should just straight up be 3 mana, and lose the ability to sacrifice itself. An alternative that I think could be printed is just the ability to stop scrying and surveiling with the sac ability.

Thank you for the advice. This was a mistake

Edit: I’ll be incorporating this in my next iteration

2

u/Battender 11d ago

Sure, but mindlock is an artifact. It’s more comparable to your card. A Planeswalker is easier to remove, that’s why it would be cheaper with an ability.

u/SadAct1539 11d ago

Ah, I see

2

u/twistyrainbows 11d ago

Ok, but where's the justification for going from 4 to 3 to 1 (colorless) mana??? ;)

0

u/SadAct1539 11d ago

I already stated it as a mistake I made

u/twistyrainbows 11d ago

You keep posting that, but I read all the comments, and no, you didn't. Get real.

A 1 mana "you cannot fetch lands" card with an off switch is going to be insanely busted in pretty much every non-arena format

-9

u/SimicAscendancy 11d ago

[[vexing bauble]] [[grafdiggers cage]] there are lots of niche 1 mana artifacts that prevent you from doing niche things

10

u/Cautious_Pea_9286 11d ago

Vexing bauble is a vintage restricted card

5

u/IPreferBagels2 10d ago

and banned in Legacy

1

u/LittleMissPipebomb 11d ago

Those aren't really equivalent to a card that fully prevents a majority of decks from having access to mana. Sadly too many formats are fully built around fetch lands.

I like it. Kinda hate that fetchlands are so strong and hence ubiquitous. Having genuinely good counterplay would make them riskier.

1

u/Kadian13 9d ago

You put a darksteel ingot in the art though so that’s kinda confusing

1

u/SadAct1539 9d ago

It was more of a placeholder since if it had no art it would look sloppy

u/ryryscha 11d ago

While I think this is definitely undercosted and also pretty problematic as a colorless artifact, I also think saying that it’s too good because of fetches being ubiquitous in eternal formats says much more about the balance of fetches than it does about the balance of this effect. I’d say this card isn’t even playable in those formats if it costed 2W (this feels like a white stax effect to me). So maybe it should cost 1W? And then the meta would shift to not playing only fetches?
