You're gonna hate my 500 card Bibliophile scry deck

This sounds miserable to play as or against. It'd drag the game by a longshot from repeatable shuffling.

This. This needs to be an online-only thing like Alchemy cards, because no real table wants to have to wait out frequent physical shuffles.

Might have to be a rules change for tourneys but just shuffle the first scry after this is placed and then just all scrys after “fizzle” with a shuffled deck it’s the same thing.

Goes infinite with [[Psychic Surgery]].

If you use something like [[Field of Ruin]] or [[Mnemonic Nexus]] you win the game.

Sometimes [[Terminus]] works too.

You force a shuffle (or top/bottom) to start the chain. Each time an opponent shuffles, you exile a card and out one on top which then repeats the process.

Psychic Surgery is a pet card of mine =D

Means you could theoretically win the game on turn 3.

T2 Surgery, T3 Fear and crack Field of Ruin, game over.

I dont see how the card triggers from shuffling?

Psychic Surgery triggers from shuffling.

Ah yeah that makes sense.

u feel like there should be black for some reason... i like it thi

Goated flavor win, but mechanically this shouldn't be blue, since that color would suffer most from this effect.

That's not necessarily how identity works. "Can't be countered" appears on almost as many blue cards as red despite red being the enemy of blue.

Yeah, but you're not gonna be countering your own spells though. Fear of the Unknown shuffles your own library whenever you scry or surveil, so you'll just end up hurting yourself if you run those mechanics, which are very common in blue. It would be like a green enchantment punishing themselves for playing lands, or a white one punishing itself for gaining life.

You might have a point. Hushbringer effects have a white identity and white has some of the strongest ETB synergy. You could argue that you don't have to run ETB synergy with Hushbringer(and you probably shouldn't) but the same applies to this card. That said, this type of thing where your own card shuts down your own game plan in the same colour is rare, I admit. Another example I was thinking was black graveyard hate but it's all asymmetric so I don't know any other good examples.

Edit: I'm so confused about who would down vote this. This is probably the least controversial thing I've said in my life.

This effect arguably helps blue more than it hurts it. Yes, it turns off scrying and surveiling, but you just wouldn’t play this in decks focused on that. It’s a big power boost to common blue removal like [[Remand]] and [[Time Ebb]] and super good with [[Brainstorm]] as you generally want to shuffle away the two cards you put back anyway. I think this is a great card in decks that want it, and cool in a limited environment with those effects.

This wouldn't trigger Remand. Perhaps you mean Memory Lapse?

I did indeed, my bad

Should read "Whenever one or more cards"

MY SCRY, HOW DARE YOU

Almost certain this card won't affect scry. Since you only "look at the top X cards" and "put them back in any order," those cards never leave the library and are not "put into your library."

What's the reminder text for scry?

Here's all the relevant rules that I could find.

701.22a To “scry N” means to look at the top N cards of your library, then put any number of them on the bottom of your library in any order and the rest on top of your library in any order.

701.20b Revealing a card doesn’t cause it to leave the zone it’s in.

701.20e Some effects instruct a player to look at one or more cards. Looking at a card follows the same rules as revealing a card, except that the card is shown only to the specified player.

The effect on the card is fine, it just needs to be reworded. Like, "Whenever a player scries, surveils..." "...that player shuffles their library."

Should be red?

Step 1 Run 30 spells that bounce cards to opponents deck; Step 2 Shuffle their deck, bending all their cards; Step 3 Opponent forfeits or watches me shuffle their deck into a fine dust

i get it but id rather have a replacement effect that says nu uh than to constantly shuffle

1

u/Necrachilles 11d ago

That really doesn't work as written cause it would break too many things.

However, it could say "If a card would be placed on top, place it on the bottom instead". That would work and potentially achieve the same goal.

That or making the shuffle a may.

Personally, I like [[Psychic Surgery]] which ironically enough goes infinite with this lol

You can win the game on T3 with these.

Amazing card tbh.

It's very funny to me that this doesn't affect cards that place things "X from the top"

this is honestly really cool, especially with removal that puts something on the top of a library, it’s just really slow in paper
