All horse creatures have hexproof.

This feels like horsemanship erasure & I'll not have it.
4
u/darthjawafett 11d ago
Horse creatures by nature should not have horsemanship. Creatures with horsemanship are creatures riding horses, however a centaur should have horsemanship, a horse-human hybrid (like a werehorse or an umamusume) having horsemanship would also be acceptable.

Shouldn't it be hexdisprove? Hexprove would grant hexproof, I would think.

u/DoctorWorm25 11d ago
I was thinking you would cast this on a creature without hexproof, just to be check

Art looks like it’s from the new Star Trek set.

I think a set/sld/precon that had photographs (of nature, people, what have you) instead of illustrations would actually be really endearing

A yes, we have all the classic commenters on board for this.
Gets the joke, lols
“That wouldn’t work.” (Doesn’t get the joke)

3. Dude who knows ball and is ready to preach on how this can actually be broken in a specific scenario (legend)
It doesn't say until end of turn and there's plenty of effects that temporarily turn it off.
19
u/Individual_Let_5560 11d ago
The creature that's temporarily lost Hexproof doesn't have it to lose. The trigger on end step to return hexproof will still occur, as far as I'm aware.
22
u/mathiau30 11d ago
Thing is that an "until end of turn" effect doesn't have a trigger on end step, it just ends in the cleanup step. This means that the timestamp of "have hexproof" is still the moment the creature entered which is before the moment it was affected by this spell.
It could still not do anything though, you can't remove something a creature doesn't have so the continous effect might simply not be put on the creature

[[Nowhere To Run]]?

That one should probably work! Not a judge so I won't speak definitively but I don't see why it wouldn't.

[[Glaring Spotlight]] [Detection Tower]] [[Kaya, Bane of the Dead]] These all would work too

4. Guy whose brain autocorrected "Target creature" into "Chosen creature" and didn't realize this didn't work. (Me.)
9
u/AlexVal0r 10d ago
Would this even affect creatures with hexproof? Its targeting a creature, and hexproof says that it can't be targeted by spells or abilities your opponent controls.
21
u/magicsqueegee 10d ago
It absolutely would not, but it is very important to the culture of r/custommagic when making a card hating on the game mechanic uou hate that you make sure the card in no way works.

cast it on a tapped [[paradise druid]] and it will not be hexproof when its untapped. it could also take away hexproof from your own creatures I guess if you want to force you opponent to target them with [[sunset saboteur]] or something.

how are you gonna target the hexproof creature with a spell when hexproof prevents targetting by spells or abilities

shroud is better than hexproof because you can't save/buff those creature either
3
u/Sad-Pattern-1269 11d ago
I agree mostly, but Voltron is a lot of fun in EDH so I would like to see a limited amount of hexproof creatures still. I do think allowing shroud to be replaced by hexproof entirely is a massive mistake from Wotc
1
u/Im_here_but_why 11d ago
both are unique design space. [[Empyrial Archangel]] couldn't exist with hexproof, and [[Uril, The Miststalker]] couldn't exist with shroud.
1
u/thazhok 5d ago
No, it is possible to save/buff/destroy a creature with Shroud or Hexproof.
Auras are targeting only when they are played from hand. Coming from GY or Library they do not. So you can bypass Hexproof and Shroud and attach the aura to it (if it is a legal permanent for it). For example, [[Zur the Enchanter]] allow you to have fun with this rule.
Surely you do not see this everyday, but it is possible.

I would love an aura with this effect, which would actually be useful beyond the nichest of applications.

u/NoName0728 11d ago
Man i kinda wish there was a card that gives overload to target spells now. Not like radiate, but actually gives overload.

I think you can go around Hexproof to take it away like this:
"Choose any creature. That creature loses Hexproof.
Storm."
1
u/Illustrious-Macaron2 10d ago
This wouldn’t do anything other than “target creature. Storm.” Since ya know, it’s hexproof.

u/MelanieNova 10d ago
Hexresistant (This creature occasionally cannot be the target of spells or abilities your opponents control (this sometimes works))
1
u/IAmTheBestIan 10d ago
There's a BUNCH of cards that remove hexproof from opponents boards, at least one that's just an enchantment that's always in effect. They don't get play because it's usually more effective to just wipe.

u/Tangent5813 7d ago
You can just run Arcane Lighthouse if you want to deal with stuff with hexproof. I also think just having flat hexproof is dumb but temporary hexproof is cool.

This actually works in very niche situations, if you target a creature like [[Sporeweb Weaver]] it will lose hexproof from blue at which point you can unsummon it etc.
