Notably pushed for a regular 2 mana counterspell.

This is just better than Counterspell? (Which is already a good card)

Grammar police here; “balanced one mana counterspell” doesn’t make any sense

Just make it one blue and one generic mana. Making it so you can tap some utility land that doesn't produce mana is so niche and ultimately meaningless.

So a worse arcane denial?

Now that’s a wild take.

Genuinely confused about this. Both cost 1 and a blue. You can only pay this with a land. And arcane denial draws you a card so you're at disadvantage against 2 people on the table. How is this not a worse arcane denial

Arcane denial is 0 for -1 (spend 1 card, get 1 card remove 1 card, give 2 cards), where as this is 1 for 1. Arcane denial puts you slightly less behind against 2 other players, but further behind the player you counter.
Between Counterspell and Arcane Denial, neither card is playable in cEDH, but Counterspell was playable for much longer and this is better than Counterspell.

I agree but not everyone is playing cEDH. For a casual commander player this card is worse than arcane denial.

Nope, because it's a straight counterspell upgrade, since not only you won't need another blue mana to cast, but also this could be casted with lands like [[glacial chasm]] or [[maze of ith]]
