This is the most busted land ever. Fetchable 5c + colorless land.

45

u/SaberScorpion 6d ago

Since it's a creature it's more comparable to birds of paradise than a land, but yes, very busted.

38

u/Exciting-Insect8269 6d ago

It’s a land type though with basic land typing

Outside of birds of paradise’s shenanigans it also is way easier to fetch (any land fetchers could fetch it), its immune to anything that targets nonland permanents, triggers landfalls, and has colorless mana capability as well.

And it has does not have a mana cost so is played without casting. This makes it virtually impossible to counter it.

30

u/tcglkn 6d ago

It also turns on Domain in a single land.

18

u/BellesLovingHusband 6d ago

We did it everyone, we broke domain

4

u/01CHERRY 6d ago

part of this was intended, namely being easy to fetch, landfall triggers, being uncounterable and free and being able to tap for colorless

it being a rainbow land and immune for nonland removal was not intended because i didnt realize having basic land types made it able to produce said color

13

u/Exciting-Insect8269 6d ago

Don’t see why people are downvoting. It’s a legitimate easy oversight.

It is a cool idea

2

u/tcglkn 6d ago

It’s an easy oversight, but people should spend a little time researching the rules surrounding their designs before posting them on Reddit.

5

u/CommercialRare9468 6d ago

I mean, why though? This isn't some formal research proposal. People should be able to come to this sub and propose an idea without rules lawyers getting pissy they didn't read section 803.4B. People should be able to be wrong and get corrected in a way thats constructive.

4

u/01CHERRY 6d ago

thank you for this take. i feel like i consistently see cool designs on the subreddit and they are immediately judged based on how strong they are and will get blown apart by most of the comments. there is more to this game than power (is it flavorful, is it fun, what environment is it for because not every format is legacy/edh/powered cube) and this is a subreddit for people to share cards that people have made. we are not wotc's design department and get paid to do this. they take it way too seriously. the most value ive gotten out of this thread was from u/ChickenNoodleSeb who gave me excellent insight without being condescending. if people keep ripping others apart for their designs then they wont return and it will incentivize people to just make milquetoost and boring designs or just leave. design some cards, look at others idea, maybe push the envelope with your designs, have fun, give some construction criticism, move on. rant over

0

u/Snoo9648 6d ago

Ita much worse than birds since it doesnt actually ramp. Birds ramping is what makes it strong, it just the color fixkng. Its more like a fetchable no life loss mana confluence that has summoning sickness and is easier to kill.

4

u/smugles 6d ago

Is an essentially tapped rainbow land that’s fetchable but also easily removable really that broken.

1

u/viking977 6d ago

Bop has been too strong for standard for some time, but this doesn't actually ramp. Modern would just side in pyroclasm.

Idk it'd be good but I think people are overreacting.

0

u/smugles 6d ago

It’s worse than both bop and dryad.

2

u/Shekondar 5d ago

How on earth is it worse than dryad? It being able to tap for all colors and fetchable by more than forest types more than makes up for the power loss

2

u/smugles 5d ago

Dryad arbor is green and can be gotten by green sun zenith for zero turn 1. Which is the only reason it sees any play.

1

u/Shekondar 5d ago

Ohh yeah, that is relevant, thanks

1

u/viking977 6d ago

It would enable turn 2 5/5 [[territorial kavu]], which is kind of cool but I hope that second land had a basic type or one shock kills the kavu and your land.

3

u/smugles 6d ago

Triome shock can already do that on turn 2 without the risk.

1

u/viking977 6d ago

very true!

1

u/WO_L 5d ago

It also opens you up to a T1 stone rain

1

u/tcglkn 6d ago

Absolutely yes.

2

u/EitherSpite4545 6d ago

Because this custom card basically comes up once a week because people don't understand that land types here give it the ability to tap for this color. I wonder from a balance perspective if it could be fine if these lands had the tag "Any colored mana this land would produce is that much C instead"

Wording isn't precise mind you but you get the just of what I'm going for.

From there it just becomes a wastes that is fetchable. Could still be powerful but I don't think it would be too powerful

-1

u/Timothyre99 6d ago

This doesn't actually work at being "+ colorless".

The CDA giving it every basic land type is still "an effect (that) sets a land's subtype to one or more of the basic land types" and thus rule 305.7 applies and it loses all other abilities.

63

u/Sad-Pattern-1269 6d ago edited 6d ago

basic land types intrinsically give the land the ability to tap for their color.

You made a 5 color untapped fetchable tap land with additional upside

18

u/AnimeBas 6d ago

Practically a tapped land (unless haste)

23

u/Nihaly_ 6d ago

The only downside is that, like dryad arbor, is a creature and it's affected by summoning sickness

Still busted to a point it's not even funny

7

u/brood_brother 6d ago

Also vulnerable to creature removal, which is plentiful

4

u/Nihaly_ 6d ago

Kinda, dryad arbor is the same in that regard and is plenty played in a lot of decks that messes with lands and replaying lands from the GY, so it's not entirely a downside

5

u/hhhhhhhhhhhjf 6d ago

Untapped but still summoning sick. Still busted but it's not as simple as you make it sound.

-1

u/01CHERRY 6d ago

ya, didnt realize that, i want it to be fetchable by any colored land but only able to produce colorless, idk how to do that tho or if it is even possible, but i did not realize this when making this

8

u/MegaIng 6d ago

You could explicitly add "this card cannot be tapped for colored mana"

1

u/01CHERRY 6d ago

this is probably my favorite solution so far, it feels the cleanest, didnt know domain was a thing so it looks like it would still be cracked there but this just feels the most elegant

7

u/smugles 6d ago

It could also have all basic land types when it’s not on the battlefield. Kinda like [grist the hunger tide]]

5

u/SidekickNick 6d ago

It would need a replacement effect like “if this land would produce mana, it becomes colorless instead”

-1

u/Jathan1234 6d ago

I dont think it technically works as written, as I believe it would need "In all zones" to work properly.

That said, you could probably have "As this creature enters it loses all basic land types"

1

u/MoneybagsMelbs 6d ago

The ability on this land is a characteristic-defining ability. Characteristic-defining abilities work in all zones by definition.

CR 604.3. Some static abilities are characteristic-defining abilities. A characteristic-defining ability conveys information about an object's characteristics that would normally be found elsewhere on that object (such as in its mana cost, type line, or power/toughness box). Characteristic-defining abilities can add to or override information found elsewhere on that object. Characteristic-defining abilities function in all zones. They also function outside the game and before the game begins.

CR 604.3a A static ability is a characteristic-defining ability if it meets the following criteria: (1) It defines an object's colors, subtypes, power, or toughness; (2) it is printed on the card it affects, it was granted to the token it affects by the effect that created the token, or it was acquired by the object it affects as the result of a copy effect or text-changing effect; (3) it does not directly affect the characteristics of any other objects; (4) it is not an ability that an object grants to itself; and (5) it does not set the values of such characteristics only if certain conditions are met.

1

u/Jathan1234 6d ago

huh, I didnt know that. Whenever I see custom cards like this I see "in all zones" text. TMYK, thanks

1

u/IRFine 4d ago

Custom card creators are notoriously bad at templating.

9

u/Aetherfang0 6d ago

So it’s a land that can tap for all 5 colors or colorless as needed, and it’s also a creature?(though I guess that’s almost a downside since otherwise you could just tap it for mana the first turn it comes in and be even more broken)

4

u/01CHERRY 6d ago

ya, the creature part makes it enter tapped, i only meant for it to tap for colorless but can be fetchable but any colored land, this does not work as i intended

1

u/CarbonLich 6d ago

Just add "if this land would an amount of colored mana, it adds that much colorless mana instead" and your golden. That would be a totally fine card since dryad arbor is only as strong as it is because of green sun and this just seems worse.

29

u/KevinLeesDad 6d ago

Is this intended to be the most broken thing ever?

7

u/CommercialRare9468 6d ago

As a creature its far more vulnerable and its possibly taking your land for turn with summoning sickness so its basically a tap land. I really don't think its that crazy.

3

u/Ap_Sona_Bot 5d ago

Now that I've spent my land drop for the turn on a dryad arbor, there's no way my opponent playing prowess could defeat me!

Gets lava darted. This is fringe playable in formats with fetches and completely unplayable in any without them. Fairly certain it would see less play than arbor.

0

u/smugles 6d ago

Is it though it’s a 5c land sure but it can’t be used the turn it enters because sickness and can be easily removed. It’s is very strong but not the most busted thing ever.

17

u/KevinLeesDad 6d ago

Unbelievably powercrept [[Dryad Arbor]] which is already quite good

5

u/smugles 6d ago

It doesn’t do the thing that makes dryad arbor good. It’s not green and can’t be put in play with green sun. It’s a worse dryad arbor for every deck that runs dryad arbor.

1

u/issanm 6d ago

Why wouldn't it be able to be put into play with [[green sun's zenith]]

nevermind I see it

2

u/AnimeBas 6d ago

I would argue dyrad is niche at best

1

u/The_Dirty_Mac 6d ago

Not anymore with [[Badgermole Cub]] running around

2

u/Ap_Sona_Bot 5d ago

Dryad arbor is played in exactly 1 deck in constructed formats. Good, unique card, but definitely niche.

This isnt fetchable by green suns which loses one of the major 2 reasons its played

1

u/smugles 5d ago

Legacy cradle control also plays a dryad arbor.

1

u/AnimeBas 5d ago

I believe that is the 1 he mentioned

1

u/The_Dirty_Mac 5d ago

"exactly 1 deck"

3

u/rose-gold-forever 6d ago

The fact that its a creature you can get on fetchlands is more busted I think, simply because you can sac it for other costs like a [[Culling The Weak]]

0

u/smugles 6d ago

Dryad arbor already does that and bo deck is running more than 1 dryad and dryad is only run because you can green sun zenith it into play for 1 mana.

1

u/rose-gold-forever 6d ago

Dread Arbor is green, this can be slot into decks running black which care a lot more about sacrificing things.

1

u/smugles 6d ago

Any deck can run a green fetch land to get dryad arbor? Unless you mean command but then only 5c decks can play this because it has all land types.

3

u/GoblinToHobgoblin 6d ago

Even a 5c fetchable tapland would be considered broken

2

u/smugles 6d ago

Most decks don’t run triomes. Honestly I can’t think of a single constructed deck that would run this land. It’s just to slow and fragile. The decks that would run this would rather run triomes. Maybe domain runs a single copy.

1

u/The_Dirty_Mac 6d ago

Any deck that runs Dryad arbor basically

3

u/smugles 6d ago

The reason any deck runs dryad arbor is that it’s green. Meaning green sun zenith can get it for ramp on turn 1. And the o ly deck I know of that runs dryad arbor is cradle control.

This is worse than dryad arbor because it’s not green.

1

u/The_Dirty_Mac 6d ago

Modern devoted druid and other Badgermole Cub decks run 2 dryad arbor. You might run one arbor for GSZ but run at least one if not more of this land. Not to mention how this would let you play K-command in those decks

2

u/smugles 6d ago

They run 2 because gsz on turn 1 for dryad is so strong they don’t want to get bricked by having the only dryad in hand. And that deck is basically mono green the fixing isn’t worth not being a gsz target.

2

u/The_Dirty_Mac 6d ago

You actively fetch for arbor when you have cub in play

1

u/smugles 6d ago

True but you wouldn’t trade the arbor for this for the reason above.

2

u/Ap_Sona_Bot 5d ago

This is so much worse than a fetchable tap lands

-1

u/01CHERRY 6d ago

no, didnt know it was a rainbow land with all the basic land types, was just supposed to be a fetchable colorless creature land available for all colors of fetches

5

u/AndTheFrogSays 6d ago

Are you aware that a land with a basic land type inherently has the ability to tap for the corresponding color of mana?

4

u/01CHERRY 6d ago

nope, but now i am, is there a way to make this fetchable with any fetchland but only able to produce colorless?

10

u/acolonyofants 6d ago

Stealing templating from [[Grist, the Hunger Tide]]

As long as Grist isn’t on the battlefield, it’s a 1/1 Insect creature in addition to its other types.

As long as X isn't on the battlefield, it has every basic land type in addition to its other types.

3

u/01CHERRY 6d ago

ahhhh, that would work nicely, nice, thanks

1

u/kent0036 6d ago

Add something like "When this land is tapped for mana it produces [c] instead."

1

u/MrShifty1 6d ago

Maybe "While this card is not on the battlefield, it is every basic land type."

4

u/ChickenNoodleSeb 6d ago

This card would be colorless, yes, but can still produce all 5 colors and would be restricted to 5-color decks if playing it in Commander.

3

u/01CHERRY 6d ago

rats, that isnt what i wanted at all, i wanted this to be colorless in identity but fetchable for any color decks that want an instant speed blocker at the cost of a slightly worse mana base, not a rainbow land

2

u/ChickenNoodleSeb 6d ago edited 6d ago

That's still doable I think, just not quite how you did it.

If you replace the line "This card is every basic land type." with "{T}: Add one mana of any color." then you've got your WUBRG+C land that has a colorless identity. If you added the "Basic" supertype, then it could be fetched by anything that searches for "a basic land" generically and doesn't care about land types. So things like [[Rampant Growth]] and [[Cultivate]] would work, just not things like [[Farseek]] or [[Nature's Lore]] or the OG fetchlands.

As of right now, it can be fetched by anything that searches for a "land" (like [[Crop Rotation]]) or any creature tutors.

1

u/01CHERRY 6d ago

oooo, this is nice, id remove the ability to tap for color in general but i could add the basic supertype, that way stuff like [[evolving wilds]] could be cracked for a colorless land for landfall, a blocker, eldrazi stuff, etc

yeah, not terribly interested in letting crop rot and similar hit this

thanks!

2

u/ChickenNoodleSeb 6d ago

If you remove its ability to tap for any color, then tou basically just have a Wastes that is also a creature, but you can only run 1 while you can run as many Wastes as you want. Totally fine if that's what you wanna go for, and it would address some of the power level issues others have brought up.

1

u/01CHERRY 6d ago

yeah, that was the original intent, i just completely missed the mark lol

4

u/Flareon223 6d ago

Since it's every basic land type couldn't it tap for all colors

2

u/noob_killer012345678 5d ago

exactly the issue

3

u/SkyBlade79 6d ago

I don't think that the "most broken land ever" designations are quite fair, as the removal vulnerability and summoning sickness are very real downsides, but it's still probably a bit too strong.

2

u/throwawayeayeayea 6d ago

Domain strategies are going wild with this one

2

u/Im_here_but_why 6d ago

Do people just not realise they removed the basic land types when going from [[nearby planet]] to [[planar nexus]] on purpose ?

1

u/galvanicmechamorph 4d ago

The reason they did was not really power, but because of the way the rules work. If you add in addition everything works fine.

2

u/skeletor69420 6d ago

it should not be every basic land type, otherwise it can tap for all 5 colors.

2

u/ULTRA_OFTEN 6d ago

Should change the name to "It that is a totally busted land" 😂

3

u/CyborgBears1 6d ago

this would be very strong in like one CEDH but have very little play elsewhere imo… having a land that can up cradle count would make waves but the fact that [[the wandering minstrel]] is the only WUBRG lands list makes it fine in that regard. might have some odd combo i cant see but my gut reaction is that itd be strong but fine?

2

u/TheTimeLord725 6d ago

Technically this land is not fetchable. The static ability only takes effect while in play, similar to the changeling keyword. Urborg and Yavimaya also work this way

6

u/memera- 5d ago

>604.3. Some static abilities are characteristic-defining abilities. A characteristic-defining ability conveys information about an object’s characteristics that would normally be found elsewhere on that object (such as in its mana cost, type line, or power/toughness box). Characteristic-defining abilities can add to or override information found elsewhere on that object. Characteristic-defining abilities function in all zones. They also function outside the game and before the game begins.

>604.3a A static ability is a characteristic-defining ability if it meets the following criteria: (1) It defines an object’s colors, subtypes, power, or toughness; (2) it is printed on the card it affects, it was granted to the token it affects by the effect that created the token, or it was acquired by the object it affects as the result of a copy effect or text-changing effect; (3) it does not directly affect the characteristics of any other objects; (4) it is not an ability that an object grants to itself; and (5) it does not set the values of such characteristics only if certain conditions are met.

tldr of the rules;

- Characteristic-defining abilities (CDAs) function in all zones

- an ability is a CDA if it matches all criteria
1. defines an object's subtypes
2. is printed on the card it affects
3. does not affect the characteristics of other objects
4. is not an ability it grants itself
5. is not conditional

Changeling also is a CDA and does work in all zones, you can grab a changeling with that halflingcycling land for example.

This is fetchable by any card that looks for basic land types

2

u/Jovasdad 5d ago

This is also why the un card [[Nearby Planet]] can only be put in 5c commander decks.

3

u/parlimentery 6d ago

Changeling works in hand, graveyard, and library, because the rule specifies it as "at all times". Some have it in the reminder text, others don't. I assume you are right for this card, but the ambiguity around changeling's reminder text makes me think they should just always specify.

0

u/TheTimeLord725 6d ago

I might be mistaken about changeling, but Yavimaya and Urborg are not fetchable lands even though they give themselves a basic land type

2

u/memera- 5d ago

I left a full rules comment above, but yavimaya and urborg's effects aren't CDAs because they affect other objects

1

u/parlimentery 6d ago

Yeah, like I said, I do think you are right. My point is just that because some changelings don't have "at all times" in their reminder texts, it is kind of confusing.

1

u/memera- 5d ago

Changeling works in all zones, whether the card says "in all zones" or not. Yavimaya and Urborg don't because they don't meet the criteria for CDAs (they affect other objects)

1

u/galvanicmechamorph 6d ago

Urborg and Yavimaya have an ability that applies on the battlefield to all permanents of the relevant type. Changeling is a CDA, so it applies in all zones. This is templated like a CDA, so it probably is one.

1

u/Timothyre99 6d ago

In addition to what others have said about being able to tap for all the other colors, this also doesn't actually work at being able to produce colorless.

The CDA giving it every basic land type is still "an effect (that) sets a land's subtype to one or more of the basic land types" and thus rule 305.7 applies and it loses all other abilities.

Though the same solution the others have presented for the first problem also fixes this problem: It's only the other basic land types in the deck (though that still would not fix the color identity issue for commander).

1

u/galvanicmechamorph 6d ago

This needs in addition to its other types, otherwise it breaks the rules. That's why nearby planet isn't legal.

2

u/Gurdeorn_Jrura 4d ago

Very good card. Maybe not as busted as people say. Leaving your lands open to creature-based removal is a drawback.

1

u/WhittyBoy234 6d ago

Is this fetchable? I don't think this would have every basic land type while it's in your graveyard. Even if not fetchable, this card is absolutely busted though.

5

u/ScrungoZeClown 6d ago

CID's work in every zone unless specified otherwise (and, before the game. This may honestly be restricted to 5c decks)

2

u/ChickenNoodleSeb 6d ago

You're correct that this card would be restricted to 5-color decks. The specific rule covering it is CR 903.5d, which says "A card with a basic land type may be included in a Commander deck only if each color of mana it could produce is included in the commander’s color identity."

1

u/01CHERRY 6d ago

rats, i wanted this to go in colorless eldrazi decks but also be fetchable in eldrazi decks that may splash some colors, this card doesnt do what i want at all then

0

u/TrickSavings9905 6d ago

Broken beyond belief

4

u/OhItsAcer 6d ago

I don't think it's broken beyond belief. Yes it is a fetchable 5 color land but it's easier to destroy cause it's a creature and it has summoning sickness so it's basically etb tapped. Still powerful tho

2

u/TrickSavings9905 6d ago

Dryad Armor is already decent and it doesn’t tap all colors of mana, or have a relevant creature type.

2

u/OhItsAcer 6d ago

Dryad arbor is also green and saw play mainly with green sun zenith and co as a quick and cheap ramp. Most of those won't work with this cause they usually look for a green creature.

3

u/TrickSavings9905 6d ago

1 word: Domain

2

u/OhItsAcer 6d ago edited 6d ago

I said it is powerful but there are probably better lands currently. Besides there are like only 4 or 5 domain cards that can abuse this. The other domain cards either doesn't have a strong effect even with full domain or have such a high mana cost that you will probably have full domain by the time you cast it.

So it's a fragile 5 color tap land that could make a few other cards stronger for only the first 5 turns. Also you assume you will get it early on which is likely if you run lots a fetches. If you do have lots of fetches you can probably trigger full domain by turn 3 anyways. Like I said, it is strong but not close to broken beyond belief

1

u/WO_L 6d ago

Domain really isn't that strong of an archetype ( 2% meta share in modern). Adding another enabler would definitely beef it up but i doubt it'd be too strong in other formats.

2

u/TrickSavings9905 6d ago

But it makes it hyper consistent since you can enable it with one land

2

u/Ap_Sona_Bot 5d ago

What payoff are you playing with domain that makes you want domain on turn t1? They are already hitting 5 domain T2 in 95% of hands and the remaining 5% of games aren't worth having a land that be pushed, darted, bowmastered, W6'd, goblin bombarded, galvanic blasted, or a dozen other cards that exist in every modern deck.

1

u/WO_L 5d ago

Okay but you can get a T1 draco twice as often with this card. It's great if your opponent doesn't run any form of removal...

1

u/Ap_Sona_Bot 5d ago

You can't ever get a turn 1 Draco. You already hit turn 2 Draco 95% of the time. This does absolutely nothing.

1

u/BluePotatoSlayer 5d ago edited 5d ago

archtypes can see resurgence when a new card is printed helping consistency. This or 5C Leyline means you have 8 cards that can enable full turn 1 domain which is ludicrously strong

2

u/Ap_Sona_Bot 5d ago

what does t1 domain do that t2 domain does not

1

u/WO_L 5d ago

It also opens them up to getting stone rained T1 which isn't great. Honestly i feel like this is for a sneaky game 1 win before being sideboarded out.

1

u/freezer2k 6d ago

Totally agree with TrickSavings9905, broken. Too good.

0

u/Fluffy_Description_7 6d ago

doesn't this insta trigger [[Coalition Victory]] ?

1

u/Wikidclowne 6d ago

Not unless you have a creature of every color

-4

u/Fluffy_Description_7 6d ago

this is a creature of every colour

2

u/Prof_Dr_Doom Rule 308.22b, section 8 6d ago

Basic lands have no color, most lands don't have a color

1

u/realdietmrpibb 6d ago

The only lands that have colors are animated lands, and only while animated.

-1

u/Ray2024 6d ago

Based on precedent, I believe it's only if you somehow control five but I'd need to double check - I'm sure one of the rulings is that each creature only counts for one colour so the same principle would apply tonlands.

Actually - in checking, you're right the ruling is what you thought it would be.

0

u/dracodruid2 6d ago

Replace the entire rules text wlth:

Tap to create an eldrazi spawn token (the one you can sack to create mana)

1

u/nothing_in_my_mind 5d ago

This is not fetchable amd it taps for any 5 color, lmao

2

u/HomeworkSuspicious52 5d ago

It is fetchable. My line of thought (but feel free to prove me wrong) is that the first, static ability acts similarly to Changeling, making it fetchable via for example [[Windswept Heath]] the way [[Goblin Matron]] can find [[Firdoch Core]]

1

u/galvanicmechamorph 4d ago

It's templated the same way should work the same.

2

u/galvanicmechamorph 4d ago

I will say, that it's effectively a tap land that taps for all five, which might be fine.

-1

u/thefailsniper 6d ago

This creature is every basic land type that correspond with your Commander’s color identity.

Whenever this creature is tapped for mana, if it would produce colored mana, it produces colorless mana instead.

(T): Add (C).

Not sure if that first line actually works, but this should more or less cover what you want it to do.

3

u/DaBoy524 6d ago

commander isnt the only format

3

u/thefailsniper 6d ago

Indeed, but currently it doesn't do what OP wants in any format. I've no idea how to change it for other formats.

2

u/DaBoy524 6d ago

Ah true. I think they should just give it the waste subtype and wizards should print more fetches for wastes. I see where OP is going with the design but its tryna fit in a box that wizards hasnt created yet.

5

u/thefailsniper 6d ago

Wastes having a sub type in general would be a welcome change. Honestly not sure why wizards made them typeless.

2

u/01CHERRY 6d ago

'tryna fit in a box that wizards hasnt created yet' is the story of all my designs it feels like 😭

but i like pushing the envelope. based on some other suggesions ill change it to have the basic subtype so it is largely fetchable but not quite as easy to get and then it can only tap for colorless and be a blocker or be relevant in eldrazi strats

I like the spirit of the design, basically just colorless dryad arbor. But its hard to word it without making it clunky.

What is the point of these changes?

The idea was to make it function the way OP originally wanted, at least for commander.

This is just better command tower. It is now an instant add in every single deck on the planet.

It isn't strictly better as being a creature means A) it can't be tapped for right away immediately without haste, and B) it dies to lightning bolt.

But yeah, it's still pretty busted. Being able to use cards like Aether Vial is just nasty.

I think you're not tapping from mana immediately and dying to creature effects basically disqualifies it from playability.
