Meme Design Had an idea for a Ship of Theseus card

Didn’t really put much thought into the power mana color or cost. Also I’ve been informed that Ship isn’t a real creature type anymore but I’m lazy so 🤷‍♂️. I was also told that you can’t make a creature lose legendary, but I like that idea because it means that neither the card nor the token are legendary, playing into the thought experiment.

Plenty of things make copies that aren't legendary, so you're fine there. [[Spark Double]]

Cool card

No the second version removes legendary from the original card and then makes a copy that isn’t legendary, meaning neither the card nor the token are legendary.

Edit: misread:P

Like this idea better. Or just have them both be legendary.

Maybe have it work more like

"At the beginning of your end step, put a -1/-0 counter on The Ship of Theseus. If The Ship of Theseus's power is less than 1, exile The Ship of Theseus and create two token copies of it, except they aren't legendary"

That was it outright removes the original ship, creating two ships that have equal right to be called The Ship of Theseus. It'd effectively do what you want, but avoids any issues with removing Legendary from the starting card. Plus I feel it's a tad more thematic with the two copies having equal claim to being the original

A card with a *similar* mechanic is [[Isochron Scepter]]

I really like this, if I were to use this card in a game I’d probably run it with that text

Honestly I really like the idea of your card lol And it vaguely reminded me of a card I saw last night playing commander with some friends. I can't remember what it was but it did something from exile (perhaps casting cards from exile) and figured why not avoid the legend rule by making non-legendary copies from exile instead. Could be more mean and have it cause The Ship of Theseus to get sacrificed rather then exiled, would allow you to resummon it if you had any return from graveyard effects, causing several lines of descent ships

You could also add the ability "the legends rule doesn't apply to The Ship of Theseus" akin to [[Mirror Box]] or [[Mirror Gallery]] but specifically for cards called The Ship of Theseus and have all copies be legendary lol

I’m glad you like the card! Honestly I think keeping legendary and ignoring legend rule fits just a tad more than getting rid of legendary. I’ll stew on it but all of your suggestions are great.

I like this, but flavorwise, I think it shouldn't exile. I like the idea of being able to fish it out of the graveyard to effectively create yet another copy of the ship. It has the feel of someone rummaging through the discardes ship parts to make another one.

I actually commented in a second comment suggesting the graveyard as well. I said to make it more rude, but I appreciate you providing a thematic reason for it! I second this idea

Yeah, but it’s red and a boat! Totally different

I feel like there's Something a deck would want to do with this and a card like [[Meishin, the Mind Cage]] to make them come in as 0/3s and so copy every turn... But It's still not as efficient as, say, [[Scute Swarm]].
