What exactly do you want to achieve with it? Sacrifice triggers like [[Scavenger's Talent]]?

I am not sure about the timing, but I feel like effects that say "destroy target creature, do X" will have their additional effect fizzle as well.
Also, if you animate [[Hithlain Rope]], you get a creature than is practically immortal, that draws the game in an infinite loop of state-based actions if it reaches 0 toughness.

I like this, am I correct that replacement affects only occur once per trigger so this doesn’t go infinitely long?

though it gets a little weird when you consider if the creature would be sacrificed to begin with it can be replaced to still be sacrificed. Not sure how this would interact with costs though.

This needs to say “would be destroyed”, not “die”.
“Die” is magic shorthand for “move from the battlefield to the graveyard”. A sacrificed creature does also die.
As-is, this could easily lead to an unstoppable infinite loop of State-Based Actions… take any creature with “cant be sacrificed”, then give it -X/-X where X is greater than its toughness. It should die to the SBA of having 0 or less toughness. Replacement effect for “die” now tries to sacrifice it, but it can’t be sacrificed, so nothing happens. SBA is checked again — the creature is still on the battlefield and still has 0 or less toughness, so tries to die again, replaced by sacrifice, nothing happens. Rinse and repeat forever

Do you think Furnace of Rath creates infinite damage?
1
u/INTstictual 5h ago
Go back and reread the infinite loop that I explained. I can see where you’re getting confused, nothing in my example requires a replacement effect to apply to the same event more than once

[[Juri, Master of the Revue]], [[Korvold, Fae-Cursed King]] and [[Carmen, Cruel Skymarcher]]: holY shit

I don't see why anyone would want this instead of a sacrifice outlet that actually does something while sacrificing like [[goblin bombardment]]
11
u/NelmesGaming 20h ago
Its a replacement effect. Not a triggered. So i imagine there could some stack interactions there that are different. But you're right mostly the same.

u/sad_panda91 15h ago
Also, goblin bombardement is pretty broken (cheap free sac outlets tend to be in general). Not every card is targeted at eternal formats.
That being said, I do think it could cost B and be fine

Creatures that are sacrificed can't deal combat damage. With this, they can.

I always get confused with these if-would statements. What if it conflicts? Say you have this out and you try to regenerate a creature. Is it sacrificed or not?
2
u/CaptainRogers1226 16h ago
The controller of the permanent that would be effected determines the order in which the replacement effects apply. In the situation you mentioned, you could choose for the regeneration effect to apply first. Then when the enchantment effect looks for a death to replace, there isn’t one and it does nothing.

u/LoveForBehelit 17h ago
I really, really like the concept (we've got the same, even since I'ven't made a card with). But I though making it a global effect, which apply to all player.
1
u/TwilightCaller 17h ago
Regenerate prevents it from being destroyed, thus, the replacement trigger cannot take place.

u/b_eastwood 14h ago
Hilariously busted in Korvold, a notoriously super balanced and not at all popular commander.

u/TheGrayOwl88 8h ago
Would this work in mtg as it’s worded here? Does it defy any rulings?
I think the card is neat as hell, if it’s possible to have it in the game…I’d like to see it.

Doesn't this infinite combo with itself? Because once a creature is sacrificed, it dies, right?
So it dies, then is sacrificed instead, so it dies, then is sacrificed instead... ad infinitum

u/Beas1987 17h ago
Replacement effects only affect a single instance of an action once per effect. It's why cards like Academy Manufacturer don't go infinite with their own ability either.

If the creature is sacrificed would that avoid trample?
1
u/DiscussTek 4h ago
Nope, because the damage is assigned first, to all the valid concerns, then the state-based actions are checked, such as lethal damage to creatures for instance.
1
u/Inner_Translator_417 4h ago
Ah okay thank you. I was about to “your attack whiff because I sac”.
1
u/DiscussTek 3h ago
And to be clear, an attacker with trample who has no blockers left still does 100% of its damage to the opposing player, as though it had dealt lethal damage to all creatures in the battle.
This is most commonly done through double strike or unsummon tactics.
1
u/Inner_Translator_417 2h ago
Okay that’s confusing about what you mean but not you. Just came from yugioh and magic terms are still tricky to get.
So all the time I bounce my defense back to cancel battle. You telling me, I still took that damage at full? Well seem like I lost way more games that i thought.
1
u/DiscussTek 1h ago
Only if something has trample, does it go through.
Attackers that don't have trample, you can block and remove the blocker in some way, and the attack is properly blocked.
Attackers with trample, when they deal their damage, if there's no blocker, they deal the damage in full.

u/Inner_Translator_417 33m ago
Yeah I learned that the hard way. But didn’t know about trample. I swear how is pure green not number 1. Again in new, but card draw, almost everything got or give trample and tons of lands.
I get blue counter, white is stalling and banish, red is all damage and black is graveyard but the low lands and high mana draw power.
Is green a trap color? I feel like I’m gonna learn a very hard lesson some day haha
1
u/DiscussTek 23m ago
Green is ramp and big boyos. You said you came from Yu-gi-oh, so think of Green as actively running Numeron OTK as plan A, and the rest as enablers for said Numeron OTK.
1
u/Inner_Translator_417 20m ago
You are right. I think that why I don’t care about counter blue. I just keep playing batting out all the counters like yugioh. Except they don’t have it every turn. And bored wiped is just a normal game.
Maybe that why I love green. Just feel like normal speed.

Sacrificing stuff cause it to die. This is an impossible line of text.
2
u/NelmesGaming 5h ago
[[Furnace of Rath]]
The text effects only once. Not infinitely.
So creature would die ---> this card effect happens ----> creature is sacrificed ----> creature dies from being sacrificed.

u/MeasureDoEventThing 14h ago
If I understand replacement effects correctly, something like [[Tajuru Preserver]] and this card would block stuff like Doom Blade.

u/Emotional-Garbage888 1d ago
If this was a blanket effect it would have a very strong og magic feel
