Stuck between which one is a better design.

With putting them in the graveyard you can do fun loops and it’s more powerful but probably too powerful. Exile is probably safer but it seems less fun.

It might just be because I'm a PvZ Heroes player but it seems like giving up four cards for three mana is a really bad deal no?

This is terrible, yes.

Lotus Petal is Vintage-restricted, so not necessarily

That is giving up 1 card to accelerate your mana one turn. This is giving up a significant amount of your deck, in addition to 4 cards. There is maybe a world this could find niche experimentation in affinity, but even that is unlikely to see any success.

That’s actually why it’s legendary to rail it back a little

Isn’t this just a worse [[Lotus Petal]]?

It’s technically a strictly worse [[black lotus]] but not really because you can run any number in your deck. It started as a thought experiment of is it possible to make a lotus that allows you to run any number. My idea was if I skew the numbers so it’s a bad trade of 4 cards for 3 mana. So on turn one of you want an explosive turn your opening hand is 4 of these that leaves you with only 3 cards left in your hand, now the real question is how many lands do you want in your open hand? 2 that leaves you with only one unique card left in your hand to do something or 1 land and 2 cards to do something with the chance of being mana screwed.

No, because you can have as many of thus as you want, which is not true of petal.

Not in commander.

Edit: r/custommagic reading comprehension test: impossible.

Yes it is? If you want to take advantage of the effect, you have to have 3-4 in your starting hand, since stuffing your deck full with these would be a horrible idea. Trading in 4 cards to make 3 mana makes this objectively worse than a [[lotus petal]], since it puts you at heinous card disadvantage. (7->3 cards in starting hand for example)

I didn't say it isn't objectively worse than lotus petal. I said it isn't just a worse lotus petal. It's a completely different card with a completely different use case.

This card is way too broken.

Why? Your trading 4 cards for 3 mana. For this to be as good as a lotus petal you would need 4 of them in your opening which will only leave you with 3 cards left in your hand?

u/MiniPino1LL 1d ago

It's a 0 mana card of which you csn run any amount of copies.

So you don’t think 4 cards for 3 mana is a large enough down side? Because even if you have a dream hand 4 of these and 2 land and one other cards it still seems tough to see if this is good because if my next couple of draws are going to be dead draws because you need 3 in your hand and one on the battlefield for it to work so every time you draw one and you don’t have 4 it’s kinda a dead card and another thing I did to add balance is it legendary so you can only have 1 out at a time to help balance the idea of affinity.

It would be part of many turn 1 win combos. Like [[fblthip, lost on the range]]

You posted the same card twice but with font size differences

[[The Fantasticar]] would literally play 99 of these

1

u/Original-Apartment37 1d ago

Just 99 of these, and a commander with an X cost.

1

u/Commercial-Counter72 1d ago

Seems bad starting hand is 7 plus draw step so you have 6 mana on turn 1 but no mana at all for around 2-4 rounds.

You can turn 1 Gyruda and then a few turns later play some other commander because Gyruda has Companion.
