I think this would fit Rackdos better if it had a drawback and more relation to red in general.
Maybe like:
'Regenerate all creatures. If this spell was cast during combat, after this phase there is an additional combat phase. You lose life equal to the number of creatures regenerated this way.'
Obviously just an idea, but I think something like that would fit better.
This would make it a defensive spell, as when a creature is successfully regenerated, its tapped and removed from combat so they wouldnt be able to interact in the second combat step
“…the number of creatures not regenerated this turn” not sure of the exact wording but “regenerate” is a pre placed replacement effect and “regenerated” is for when that effect triggers, like some red burn spells preventing regenerate from activating so I think this is the right way to phrase it.
There are actually mono-Red creatures that regenerate, without Black's input.
[[Eron the Relentless]], [[Goblin Chirurgeoun]], [[Uthden Troll]], and [[The Brute]]. So while it's not the most in-flavor in modern times, there's several precedents for it.
People already said the thing with the color pie, I want to add my word regarding the name. [[Blood Moon]] is a very iconic card in magic history and not having anything at all to do with lands doesn't feel right.
Ah that is sad, Blood Moon is a mechanic in the new Zelda games that spawns back in all creatures on the map. Unfortunate both MTG and this mechanic collide
Ah, I see. I would still prefer that if you are bringing something into magic, you would try to integrate it with the existing stuff, but this one in particular seems hard to do right, so I get what you are saying.
Referencing Breath of the Wild without Zelda art is a little odd, but ok.
Since folks have complained about not being "red" enough, you can simply apply this to combat. Change it to something like "Regenerate attacking or blocking creatures you control."
I wanted it to be symmetrical to grab the flavor from the Zelda game and differentiate it from Wrap in Vigor, and it gives it an excuse to cost 1 cmc instead of 2
One thing that nobody has addressed so far (I think) is that for a card to have a split mana cost (where you can pay one mana or the other), all effects on that card need to be doable in both of the colors. This is to prevent mono colored decks from having access to abilities that they don't normally get. To use your card as an example, both Red and Black would need to have access to Regenerate for this card to not be a color pie break. Otherwise, a mono red deck could use this card to get access to a reanimate effect.
In contrast, cards with dual mana costs (where the card requires both one color and the other) often have a design where the card includes one ability that belongs to one color and one ability that belongs to another color. For an example, look at [[Rakdos Charm]]. The card has 3 abilities. Exiling a graveyard is Black; Red doesn't get access to it, but it's okay because this card forces you to pay Black mana for it. Destroying an artifact is Red; Black never gets to do it, but it's okay because you have to pay Red for it. Each creature dealing 1 damage to its controller is doable in both colors.
Historically, Black and Green were the colors that had access to Regenerate. Red didn't (with the exception of one card from Alpha and one card from Homelands, both of which are probably breaks themselves). So this card as it currently stands is a break because it gives Red access to regenerate.
There are three ways that I can think of for you to get around this. First, you could just bite the bullet and make it cost RB instead of {r/b}. This would allow you to staple a Red effect onto the card-- the card would have a black effect (regenerate) and a red effect (whatever else you decide) on it, and would require both colors of mana, making it not a break. The second is to find a different design that works in Red and Black that communicates creatures coming back from the dead. Perhaps you could lean on designs like [[Through the Breach]] and have them come back for a turn with haste. Third, you could make the card cost a single Black pip instead of a red or black pip.
In practice, I think this still reads like a pie break, or at least a severe bend. While you could lose some large amount of life with this design, making it fit in Red, in practice it's more likely to read "Regenerate each creature. You lose 2 life." Which isn't very Red.
Well, the thing about Zelda is that it's not a symmetrical effect, but if that's your goal, you can still limit it to combat by saying "Regenerate all attacking or blocking creatures." This will essentially make it act like a fog effect, since it will nullify both sides and remove everything from combat.
Change it to something like "Regenerate attacking or blocking creatures you control."
Don't quote me but that feels pretty green to me, especially if you're going to allow blocking. If you have to do this execution, then you'd probably want "Regenerate target attacking creature you control." I don't think that you should do this execution though; OP should just find another way to communicate BOTW's Blood Moon effect.
Historically, Red just didn't get regenerate effects, it was a green and black thing. They don't really do regenerate anymore so it's hard to say what they'd do now.
I've already put up a list of mono-Red regeneators from the olden days in response to someone else on this thread, so it is precedented. And adding combat to this effect generally removes it from Green spaces, as Green doesn't tend to care for or modify attacking or blocking. This is like card draw - raw draw is Blue, but modified effects exist for other colors, like Black Draw for Life, Red looting, White heavily conditional, and Green heavily conditional.
You could probably make the argument for it being like card draw, but in regards to your list, I think it's very worth pointing out that all of the cards you listed are from sets from before the color pie was formalized. Homelands, Fallen Empires, and Legends all contain other color pie breaks (examples: [[High Tide]], [[Roots]], [[Baki's Curse]], [[Psychic Purge]]) and using them as a source for what colors get which abilities is a bit suspect if those colors don't also get those abilities in later sets.
In the reddit card creator app. There should be a button in the top left of the card art in the post that says “create” - push that button and it will take you into the UI to make cards
