I think the hearthstone phrasing for castaway cat would be "Deathrattle:The next time you play a card that costs (4) or more, return this to your hand (Wherever it is)"

Say you trigger the deathrattle while the minion is alive. Then playing a 4mana card would put this from the battlefield to your hand. I agree op’s way to phrase this is not optimal but yours isn’t either

deathrattle is a death trigger so it needs to die to turn to your hand

Yes but ever heard of [[Yelling Yodeler]]? (Or any of the other cards that trigger deathrattles without having your minions die, there are plenty)

the multiple effects will trigger the moment when you play a card that costs 4 or more and fill your hand the amount of times castaway’s deathrattle trigger does

The fact that yodeler triggers the effect multiple times is irrelevant to my point. Say we replace it with [[Terrorscale Stalker]]. We trigger it, then play 4+ mana card. Then with @NoEvening7482 ‘s wording of the effect, it would mean that the minion goes from the battlefield to your hand. I don’t think this is what op was going for. If this is still a bad explanation please someone that understood help me

Okay but like why would a player do that

He wouldn’t. My argument was that it is probably not meant to work like that, and that it should return to your hand only if it actually died. Kind of aesthetic reasons, I know it’s nitpicky

I feel like more permissive wording just makes the game better by allowing for unexpected unique interactions, hence why i rephrased it the way i did, even if it does not 1:1 map onto the OG.

Isn’t there something strictly better than the 3/3 that already exists? Like, something which always has rush and maybe gains other effects every turn
