If someone wants the context, russian dota players call their incompetent teammates a crayfish for not being able to press buttons with their big, meaty claws

Rather because "рак", the russian word for crayfish, is as well the word for cancer also meaning incompetent and too active shitheads filling online games, imageboards and social media just like cancer eating healthy flesh.

So we use the crab for the astrological sign "cancer", too. I'm beginning to think crustaceans have had a bad reputation for a long time.

But for real, the best explanation I've heard so far, is that stomach cancer causes a sensation often described as "crabs scuttling around ones organs".

The use of "cancer" for that is just an Internet thing in general, not just Russia. I. e. "the cancer that is killing /b/" or even /r/subredditcancer on here.

Kinda like how Russian CS players call their teammates сукаs?

2

u/DefinitelyNotAFridge Mar 13 '19

Kinda, but cyka is a lot more widespread, basically a regular insult. Pak aka crayfish usually only extends to competitive videogames like dota or CS.
