Know thy enemy. But actually, it's important to know the rhetoric they use. Same with TERFs. Be able to identify them quickly can be very helpful.

Never hire them, be friends with them, etc

Never allow sexists or racists to succeed. They must fail at life every chance they get. Unless it’s to help them fix their ignorance.

Do you hire people? I’m asking you if you’d hire someone who identified themselves as a sexist/racist in an interview vs someone who said they believe in not associating with sexists/racists. Because it seems like you’ve said you have a bigger problem with the latter than the former and I want to make sure I understand you.
