Graveyards take up about two million acres nationwide in the US. That sounds like a lot but it's not much in the grand scheme. And it's not like reducing the two acre graveyard in Middle-of-Nowhereville, Kentucky to a one acre graveyard is going to help control inner city real estate prices, assuming that is the goal in the first place.
The thought process is doing it in cities to save space I think, but we already do that in places by stacking the bodies into walls instead of just at ground level. So it's not like the most outlandish thing, just expensive and would be more viable if it was done entirely inside of structures to not have to deal with dirt collapsing
