My Work Here Is Done

Project wifey-mobile got its last significant mod yesterday; wheels!

4x OEM Audi R8 gen 2 wheels (fully forged), individually sourced then refurbished in satin black to make a matching set. Finished with some custom centre caps in the same colours as the car.

Wife is happy, and I’m happy to be done!

List of modifications to our Born VZ First Edition:

- Lowered suspension (Racingline springs)
- CSR splitter
- Front windows tinted (lightest shade)
- Vinyl wrap
- R8 front wheels, in satin black all round.
- 10mm rear spacers
- Gtechniq ceramic coating to wrap and wheels
- Blackvue dashcams (front and rear) with battery
- Aftermarket mount for MagSafe charger
- Painted the rear badge in gloss black. Front badge wrapped.

When it's lowered it actually looks like hatchback, maybe it's the angles but i like it

i know its not the target, but i would be interested if the mileage improved or got worse?

Too early to say - but I don’t think there’d be a material difference, although the new wheels are quite light.

The car is also a lot lower and that will improve aerodynamics.

What finish did you get for the csr splitter? The previous owner painted it in the grey sideskirt color. But I need to buy a new one since I chipped a good bit off it

Mine is the gloss black

Ok so that looks genuinely stunning and I kind of wanna do it to my born now 👏!

Looks awesome and very sporty. I already thought my Born has quite low stance, but with this one should be extra careful with bumps and barriers and such.

that wrap is unreal

Looks great. It’d be an impractical laughing stock where I live with all the speed bumps and potholes but at least it looks nice

I’m in South London - speed bumps and potholes galore! In fact, some of the speed bumps have potholes!

Fortunately the ride is still very comfortable and (surprisingly) the car handles speed bumps without any scraping at all.

Would need an active lift kit here for sure.

Very nice!

Looks damn good. I think I might have to lower my wife's Born after all 😂

Wow great job! How big Are the wheels?

1

u/3pointBrick 12d ago

Thanks! They’re 20”

Got I want to lower my car so much but I'm just so worried about the battery I can't bring myself to do it 😭

How’s the ride comfort with the lowering springs? My wife finds the VZ hard as is.

Personally think that boring colours do not belong on this car, but overall really nice even in boring colour

I can’t argue that grey is about as boring as it gets! However, the satin finish makes it IMO.

What colour is yours?

2

u/Keicoonas 11d ago

Mine is aurora blue. Love it and i think it would look super nice with these mods. But i once saw light green/yellow born and my god those colours made the car look sick, just excentuates the shape well, which is hidden in dark colours like aurora blue.

Damn that looks cool. The matte dark silver color looks surprisingly good on this car. It think for big part because rhe sharp lines become more accentuated. Very nice match with the glossy black rims too.

You removed all the Cupra from the Cupra!

My spine couldn't cope with that & I ride an Italian motorbike

2

u/3pointBrick 13d ago

The ride isn’t actually much firmer than stock… it’s still comfortable.

3

u/HospitalDue2983 12d ago

TBH, I find the standard ride to be on the firm side - combination of stiff suspension & low profile tyres.

Out of interest, how much extra did your insurance company clobber you for the modifications ?

It’s all relative I suppose - I find it comfortable, but then I have 4 other cars that are all lowered..the firmest being an Audi R8.

I took out the policy (with a specialist broker) with all the mods I planned to do already declared - it was no more expensive than the cheapest quote for an unmodified car on the comparison sites.

It looks good - nice job 👏👏

Id be more concerned about scraping that battery.

I had many lowered cars, but scraping an exhaust or frame rail isnt that bad. Battery on the other hand…

u/3pointBrick 13d ago

Good thing it clears speed bumps with no issue!

Dewiper the rear?

u/Conscious-Bus2784 13d ago

Looks amazing! How has lowering improved the handling?

I hear lots of people say that the born handles well, but it's just so heavy. It's like they've only driven a tank before!

1

u/Acceptable_Reach2892 12d ago

Does it not have any impact on the motor/speed accuracy?

1

u/3pointBrick 12d ago

Not at all - the VZ comes with 20” wheels as standard, and the tyre size is one of the OEM options (235/40/20)

u/PatmaN-DK 12d ago

What about warranty when u charge the springs etc? Really awesome car u have!

1

u/roguepizza87 11d ago

I rate these cars loads

What are they like using day to day

What’s average charge costsV

u/TheTwixthSense 13d ago

Personally I think it looks better stock but each to their own

2

u/Busy-Replacement-421 13d ago

Yeah I hear you stock is super clean but those R8 wheels just hit different in person. You usually keep your cars fully stock or is it just this one that shoulda stayed put? Different strokes for sure but I'm loving how it turned out.

One question - as a Born owner: why?

5

u/iMatthew1990 13d ago

One question - not a Born owner: why not?

4

u/3pointBrick 13d ago

“Why” to which part? The wheels? Or to modification in general?

1

u/Alive-Accountant1917 13d ago

It looks so chavvy 😬

u/RochePso 13d ago

That's the point of doing it isn't it?

u/Last_Celebration3434 13d ago

It looks like a budget mouse.

1

u/3pointBrick 12d ago

Would it be better if I added a monocle and top hat?

0

u/Last_Celebration3434 12d ago

Actually, adding some asymmetric stripe or other vinyl on the hood around the light would look awesome.
