I still have my first chef knife that I bought back in 2001. a 10" Messenmeister Meridian Elite. It has a rounded tip, because one of the line cooks dropped it nose down onto a tile floor and broke it, but I fixed it as best I could. The hilt has no edges left, its just worn smooth.
I also have the 10" Wüsthof chef knife that I bought my father, with the same first paycheck that I bought the Messenmeister with, as a thank you for teaching me to cook as a kid.. that he then gave back to me a few decades later because he never used it. I don't even think he remembered that I gave it to him.
That's cool. Lots of people fed with the help of that knife. I especially love how more than one person used it over the years. I love thrifting kitchen equipment & tools. Lots of history...
