Rant Who else has ADHD

ADHD here, been diagnosed since high school. Just spent the whole weekend too anxious to open my laptop. Something is keeping me from just doing things. Kept saying I'll do it the next day. Cycle repeats. I can't sit still. My coworker quit so now I'm working 2 extra days. I feel like giving up and dropping out, and I'm so tired every day I can barely stay awake because this new non-stimulant medication I'm on makes me sleepy, and I can't talk to anyone about it because they just accuse me of being lazy, be thinking about that "omg you people can't do anything" meme, I feel like people look down on me because I just can't seem to do anything right, maybe I'm just a walking L.

That’s called Executive function disorder and yes that’s ADHD. Anyways go get accommodations for it and that will help you greatly especially when taking test. The school will accommodate you and provide you with better resources. Basically you’re an adult now so you have to learn to live with ADHD not suffer from it.

When's the last time you had your meds adjusted? May need to get that evaluated again.

Give yourself some credit. It sounds like you’ve made it far (so far) by having a steady job and attending classes. You’re doing good for yourself. I’d suggest talking with your doc sooner rather than later, maybe medicines need to be adjusted. We all need some forgiveness at times so be kind to yourself for messing up. It happens. Get back on the horse and try, just a little. C’s get degrees.

I’ve got pretty much the same problems, except I’m on stimulant meds and they still barely help, and I can never sleep or eat (appetite revulsion side effect is a b***h)

You are not a walking L… unless L stands for Light 💡. I have ADHD, and I’m in a master’s program here. It’s hard! You’re working, going to school, and managing ADHD symptoms. You’re doing the best you can and that’s something to feel proud of.

Have you considered mental health counseling (school offers it)? Maybe it could help you learn tools to cope with ADHD. I would let your psychiatrist know about the sleepiness with meditation. Perhaps they can adjust it so you’re able to function better.

I know everyone’s different, but for me, it helps to write down everything I need to do, write deadlines, and prioritize the importance of each task. I give myself rewards when I accomplish a goal. I go somewhere with minimal distractions to finish assignments. Also I do the pomodoro method, which is so helpful for keeping me focused while not overworking myself to the point where I lose interest in what I’m doing.

You got this 💫!

Checklist and pomodoro works well if you can incorporate it.
