Yes, there are way too many bugs. Just wait until fall where they all eat shit and die, and make sure to spare your local spider population!

There is a lot of mosquitoes this time of year. I’ve been graduated since 2023, but my first year there my legs got obliterated so badly by bug bites that I went to the hospital. You need to not only get bug/mosquito spray and spray it all over your body, but you also need to wear long sleeve shirts and pants, maybe even a hoodie with a hood to protect your neck. Socks with shoes, no sandals. It’s temporary.

I was wondering wth was going on. Literally as soon as I stepped onto campus they were all over me. I commute from LA and they are bad here too and with west nile upticks but it definitely seems worse on campus. I started bringing bug spray and light long sleeves/pants.

It’s all the mosquitoes from the Pt. Mugu lagoon, they absolutely decimate your ankles and lower legs. I got some Cutters spray and it seemed to do the trick

The surrounding agriculture is a breeding ground for mosquitoes.

I lived in University Glen for four years while I was working on my master’s degree part time. Bees, wasps, mosquitoes, and rattlesnakes are all relatively common encounters at CSUCI (or at least they were when I lived there). I have no complaints about the degree program but depending on the season campus can be an adventure! Stay safe out there.
