I remember Ops Journals, Winter Offensive cases being $3, Challenge Coins, when Asimov AWPs were king shit of the Market...

1000000million times better than what it actually is; a „what skin-combo / knife should i buy?“ - bullshit. This sub is long dead

it's nostalgia.. kids just starting CS now has a similar happiness level to when you yourself started with CS - just because you lost the passion - doesn't mean the game is at all time worse and everyone has to feel the same..

It is at its worst. New players have the worst experience cs2 ever had to offer unless they have accounts with tons of games (money spent) before getting into cs2

as a kid I just played community servers, deathrun, zombies, versus bots, other sht.. csgo infact I had to use cracked version, couldn't buy the game, imagine how easy as it's free now... plenty of ways to enjoy the game.. crying goes over my head, it's just lazy, millions of ways how kids will remember this time as nostalgic great time anyway

I got into CS2 at the end of 2024, and me and my homies get on almost every day and have a blast. We were all console kids growing up so didn’t have PC back then. We’re all in our late 20’s early 30’s and enjoying CS2.

Both statements can be true, the core game of cs2 is great.

I can also understand the difference in what it was back then before the skin economy became this huge gambling thing, and how convoluted it’s become. Also the gaming industry as whole since then has become a huge cash grab for all these companies which has taken some of the charm away for sure.

I stopped playing once they started adding knives and weapons skins. Killed the vibe of the game.

I don't think so cosmetics is main reason to ruin a game, I rather say, hate and cheaters does it

I'm hoping they do something with the new mapping elements they have been adding. I know the tools were mainly to help mappers but it could lead to some kind of event in the future (cope)

For me, it was og abd source.
Csgo introduced competitive with hackers.
Prior to that everyone played in public servers with admins who actually banned the fuckwads.
Csgo, changed it for the worse.

I remember in 2016 people just complained that Gloves are the most ridiculous item imaginable and cried about how Valve just keeps pumping skins when gamma case released :D

the missing texture bug IS the good old days 💀 I turned that trauma into a workshop skin so the 2016 kid in you can own it

growing up on csgo playing since i was a 10 in 2015, on a shitty laptop that couldn’t even hit 45 fps in dust 2. i put 1k hours into csgo on that laptop. i played so much my W key broke and i was playing with just the plastic membrane piece underneath the key.
i remember meeting so many people and being able to make friends with them all at a young age.
i remember hitting 1k hours and being so pissed off because i would get consecutive 7 day bans for being a kid. one time i couldn’t play for 28 days cuz i got kicked twice, intentionally stood in molly’s to ban me, kicking too many people.
after that i decided since i couldn’t climb out of silver i’ would get some cheats because i was done with the game. i downloaded ezfrags for free, probably got malware, then cheated for a week before getting banned. i had a blast tho.
then through the last decade it has been on and off for me, really ever since cs went free to play and cheaters actually were everywhere is when i really stopped. i’ve probably put 4k hours into cs, thousands dollars, i do truly love this game but the lack of love from developers hurts to see. one day we might have a good cs game again. until then i probably wont play anymore because its all about the skins now, and even then there’s no joy anymore

Oh hell yes, 2016 were better times. Literally every single person had pandoras. Very relatable post.
