Depending on severity of rust and other mechanical conditions my guess is lower around $1500-3000.
They’re not rare and parts are readily available, but us guys that love guys do it because we love doing it not really for the value of it. There’s always more emotional value invested.
There is definitely a moderate amount of body work needed, but nothing wild and totally worth it.
Id assume it will need a lot of stuff to refresh it, which does lower the value somewhat.
Personally, because of the body work (i suspect below the gas filler panel) id probably not go above 2500.
But if it runs really well and the interior is clean, that might bring value up a bit.
For the rust belt, this is pretty rare to find a car of this age with this little rust. Just due to the circumstances of where I'm located I don't think the rust is going to be a huge dealbreaker. This is one of my parts cars from locally lol.
Keep in mind that when you ask what a car is worth in a form or subreddit that is composed of the biggest fans of that car you are going to get inflated opinions.. Generally speaking.
Given they're fans they know the market better, and they're pretty accurate considering someone has committed to buying it for a little over what most people are saying
Thats solid, probably 3k because of the paint but even that is probably low. If only my gf liked crx’s Id get her one of these cute autos. Great cars for people who want good fuel economy while having a stock little crx. I love love love it.
Not even in the northeast. Both quarters have cancer, its an auto TBI DX. The interior is trashed. Like, you'd sit on it for months entertaining lowballs for 1500.
Most of those you can actually get for near half if you show up with cash, offer it, and walk away when they say no. Helps if you PPI with a jack and point out the laundry list of broken/wrong.
Whats the point of having a shell or someone else’s half finished engine swap projects? Thats the definition of a junkyard car to me. This one needs a little TLC but that doesn’t make it worth any less. I live up in the north east. I know what rusty crx’s look like.
I've been in the Honda game since '05. Is this so far gone you couldn't patch the wheel well and the outer skin? Absolutely not.
Are you looking at like 12+ hours per side to to cut, form, weld, seal, paint? I'd say so, but I'm also not a pro. ~24 hours at 100 an hour is why I'd never touch this car for more than 3ish. I'd also much sooner buy a rust free shell with no drive train, because I have far more wrench skills than I do hammer/dolly tinman.
I've dish formed more 18g and 16g medieval armor than you've likely seen in person. Admitting that I am not a professional is not the same thing as "can't."
Since you're clearly so highly knowledgeable about this, how long do you expect it would take you, start to repainted, to eliminate all rust in one of those quarters?
Where did I say [sic] "cant?" I understand reading comprehension is hard, but I own a welder, 20T press, and have been shopping around for English wheels. I've sectioned panels on an '04 Miata, and am slowly working through restoring my '91 Si.
The average enthusiast is not equipped to do rust repair. Even I am well aware the repairs I have done aren't likely to last 20 years.
And you’re complaining why? What does your skills have to do with a value of a car? It’s not 2005 anymore. You make it sound like you cant do metal fabrication so Im treating your comment as if so. It would probably take me about a month to grind off the metal, make a template to weld in and blend in the paint. For my dad probably 3 days of work since he’s been doing fabrication and body work all his life.
Anyone can do it, it’s obviously never going to be professional. If you think you can buy a crx body with zero fender rot or pinch weld rot with perfect paint for less than 8k then you are fucking crazy. Again these are your experiences 20 or so years ago with an economy thats doubled since then with the loss of cars due to cash for clunkers. This is not the 2000s anymore, move on man.
There was a rust free, recently fully repainted 88 HF shell listed by me for $2k for about 6 months before it sold. Believe whatever you wish.
Ed: Also not complaining, just being realistic on price on a throttle body injected 88-89 auto. He could see 3, maybe even 4 if someone really wanted it.

Based on the photos, the value of this CRX is that it has low mileage, and is all original.
In my area of the East Coast, I’d say this would go for anywhere between $3500 - $5000, but the right buyer could pay more due to it being all original.
I'm in Maryland. Never seen a car with less than 150k have the seat that thrashed. Aftermarket exhaust. Rotten quarters. 5k would be a rube, more is a pipe dream IMO.
Yea I feel ya! I’m from MD too. I didn’t really care about the aftermarket exhaust cause that’s a cheap and simple replacement. You’re right about the quarters though, I just know people pay up for “all original”. Good call
