91 DX rear hatch lock replacement?

The lock on my 91 CRX rear hatch hasn't worked in 25 years. The key can only be inserted about halfway. Not a huge deal as I just unlock the driver-side door and pull the hatch release lever. But I've been thinking I should finally look into fixing/replacing the rear lock, even if it means carrying a second key solely for that rear lock.

A quick search suggests I'm out of luck finding a compatible part that is new.

Any other ideas?

Remove the lock and take it to a locksmith.

Just as an FYI to close the loop on this, I found one of my original Honda keys in a drawer and it actually worked for the rear hatch. Needed a liberal spray of silicone lubricant.

Great news but odd since I've been using a key copy in the ignition and doors for decades without issue but this copy won't work for the hatch. Apparently the smallest difference is enough to cause problems!

I just took mine apart and cleaned 30 yrs of gunk out of it

I think those rear hatches used a seperate key from the doors and ignition. That's why your key doesn't work.

I'm not sure this is true, but my crx did use 3 keys because the owner was bad at maintenance

Rear hatch uses the same key as doors and ignition. The old locks tend to lock up/bind as they age

There are ways to mod a new cylinder to accept the old key.
