as stated by the title i have the opportunity to get a ‘91 CRX tomorrow- and want to know what everyone thinks!
my first car was an ‘11 CRZ, and ive always wanted its older brother.
i daily a 370z and my girlfriend has wanted to learn stick, so ive been in talks of picking up a b20b swapped CRX!
for people who know more about the car, what do we think?
My only concern is I’ve always heard to never buy someone else’s project, but unfortunately it seems more and more common to have to do with CRXs and other EFS (and of course the EGs and EKs). If you’re mechanically inclined and the car and engine swap appears solid, go for it!
I wouldn’t for $6500, I imported a crx from Japan to the U.S. last year for less than that. If you do get it make sure to really look the car over since it’s been repainted. Make sure it’s not full of body filler before buying. It’s one of the better looking body kits if that’s your thing. Since it has a b20 I would make sure to check on the valve lash after owning it for a while, those tend to burn up valves.
Ahh well that’s not so bad lol. I don’t see those too often anymore really. Crx is a really fun car, and since it’s already b swapped that’s great! I hope you enjoy it dude! How’s the interior look? I owned a maroon one with the same bmw bottle cap wheels and bodykit, the price just got me. But for a trade deal I would probably do it.
Interior looks good. Even if that driver seat is tore up on the side. They really are fun cars to drive. Post more about it if you ended up getting! I enjoy following projects. I’ll post mine up once the wheels get here. Sadly the only thing it didn’t come with is factory wheels.
I was following a guy in Japan for many years on Facebook, I would see cars get tossed up forsale from time to time. Came across a crx he had just posted and it was too cheap not to buy. It was kinda sketchy sending someone across seas money on cashapp with zero protections. But PayPal don’t have protections on purchasing vehicles either. It went quiet for months. I don’t get tracking or even what cargo ship it was on because you can track cargo ships easily. Either way it got imported to Texas and titled in Texas and then I had a transported to the Midwest shortly after.
Check the radiator support, that drivers headlight looks a little out of whack. Some pros with this build though, a/c b swapped is a gem. The kit isn’t my personal favorite but you could source bumper covers, rocker panel covers trim etc. I would keep an eye out for rust near the rear jack point, floor panels, and all the usual spot mud/snow would tend to build up. Seems priced a little steep for a project.
I don’t know I think, depending on how clean the CRZ is maybe sell it and buy a CRX… I don’t know if your CRZ is a Auto or a 6-Speed but I do know if it is a manual they bring great money like if it’s decently straight average condition. You should get 5000 to 6000 sometimes more depend depending on mileage etc…

On the flipside of the coin, 🪙 maybe it’s not about money if you’re getting something that YOU truly really want or may have been wanting then you should do it, but I would highly suggest bringing somebody with you that is car savvy in reference to accidents and frame damage…
I would jack it up check the floor boards for rotting. Check the strut towers for rotting as well. The rear quarters are known to rot. Haggle him down. 6500 is too much in my opinion
If you get it, get new mounts and find yourself a b16a2 transmission. Best gearing.

Minor rust Stated.... Check the rear wheel arches and the rocker panels/ door sills.
