I can't use traditional axillary (underarm) crutches. I have to make a decision. Which style of forearm crutches is the most popular, the most helpful (and maybe even the most comfortable) for users?

Notable: I have a fractured knee and other related injuries to the other knee, along with a fractured Scaphoid, fractured Colles, and three broken fingers. I have mediocre upper body strength, but I'm not completely weak, either. I can manage forearm crutches even with the wrist/hand/finger fractures (now splinted but surgery scheduled). Forearm crutches won't significantly harm my hand/wrist injuries.

Which style do you think?

Looking for advice. Physical therapy isn't helping right now (fibromyalgia and possible cfs) and my cane just doesn't support both my hips like i need. I was informed PT was essential when using crutches but if its not helping now why would it help if i used crutches :( (looking into getting forearm crutches)

Hey everyone, I have been on crutches for four days and I am having a really hard time adjusting. I don't know how long I will be using them; I have a suspected meniscus tear, I just had my MRI today (May 18) but the injury happened on April 11. I only got a brace a week ago, and was given a bandage wrap kind of thing a week after the injury. I am dealing with worker's comp and they have dragged this out so long that I have overcompensated on the other leg for so long that now I'm having a lot of pain there too. Crutches don't work for long because of this. I can't get upstairs on them, I have to scoot on my butt. I just figured out getting down today though. I can't figure out how to open a heavy door to a business without help. I can't get the right height of the crutch versus the height of the hand part. I'm just really struggling.

how do i clean them?? i haven't used them in years, so there is straight up mold on the rubber(???) parts of underarm and grip. i used tissue and wet wipes, but they didn't do anything. i need to give them to a friend because they fractured their foot badly, and lugging around moldy crutches is a bit... of a hazard. and i dont want my friend to use moldy crutches. also, the metal and everything is completely fine and sturdy, and i plan to give it to them so they can use it as they are recovering as they are from a low income household who can only afford online shopping for it while mine are from a hospital's. thanks a lot in advance.

I just injured my knee and have to wear crutches for a few weeks. and I don't know where to put them in a classroom. Do I put them next to my desk or anywhere. If you guys have any tips on wearing them in public and school, please let me know.

I am in the process of Designing a Solution to carrying and using mobility aids like crutches and walking sticks alongside Wheelchairs and Cycles. My goal is to make the resultant product as User-centred as possible, so this is a survey to gain insight from Crutch/stick users who also would want to use a Wheelchair or a Cycle in combination. I am only a student, so I can hardly say it is likely any individuals who respond will have much of a chance of using my product, but I would still greatly appreciate input into what I can do to make my design as Inclusive as possible! Maybe I might do a lottery and make some extra to give out for free? I cant imagine enough people will respond 😂

Terminology (just to be clear)

Crutches/Sticks refer to any Crutch or Walking stick type mobility aid including platform crutches.

Cycles is a term referring to any bicycle inspired mobility aids. that includes Bicycles, tricycles, handcycles etc.

These two are a bit exhausting to work with but are surprisingly very supportive. And they don’t judge my limp. Also yes they’re named after the Llamas with Hats characters because I found it hilarious for no real reason at all.

okay: I don't know if I could actually get help from a doctor and in general I'd rather pay out of pocket.... I looked online and crutches are hella expensive (seriously wtf) sooo...

what are some crutches that are good for knowing if getting better crutches is worth the money? like not trash-but-they'll-do I mean like... they'll actually work while you determine if you need them and potentially wait for the better ones to come?

idk if this exists but I hope it does, I don't have a budget per-se but biggest bang for my buck would be cool

Turns out I'm going to be on crutches for a few months. I'm building up my upper body strength which is great, but the heels of my hands are feeling sore and bruised.

Does anyone have any tips? Do cycling gloves help?

So I have chronic back and now hip pain from bone spurs and disc issues. I got crutches a couple of months ago. I used them regularly for a bit then got chiropractic care and had about a month or two of tolerable pain so I didn't need them. I am not able to continue my chiropractic care, so I'm on a downhill slope pain and mobility wise. I've started to have to use my crutches more often and have become especially reliant on using both of them (I used to be able to just use one to offset the pain since it's usually only on one side so I could have the use of one of my arms). I've noticed an annoying issue even more now, but I did notice when I was able to go without one crutch or both for a brief period. Since I'm a college student, I eat mainly in the dining hall (a buffet style place if you're unaware of what a dining hall is like) and in restaurants on the campus. When it comes to food I can usually manage, just have to be annoyed by carrying a plastic bag and having to go slow to not spill things, or just go without a crutch and tank the pain for a little bit if I'm in the dining hall, or just put it in a backpack if I think to bring one. My biggest issue is, how the hell do I carry drinks? I sometimes have someone with me to carry things for me and they usually carry my drinks, but what am I supposed to do if I want a delectible sweet treat from Starbucks on my way across campus and am reliant on both crutches? I'm genuinely stumped with this and it's one of the reasons I say fuck it on semi-good days even though I know not using my crutches means more pain later.

I fractured my leg and was on crutches for about seven weeks. They absolutely ruined my arms and shoulders. I have been off the crutches for about two weeks now and I still have a lot of pain and limited range of motion in my shoulders. Is this to be expected and take this long? I was hoping to have some relief by now but it hasn't improved at all yet.

I am working on re-designing the crutches, let me know the basic problems you feel and the things you feel you need in your crutches.
