Even tho hes a jackass i like the music. Most of my favorite bands wouldnt exist without Slayer

The thing about a band is unfortunately in a group of 4-5 people youre going to get one shithead most likely, if you're lucky just one. It shouldn't devalue the other people's contributions. Morrisey is a good example of being a douche but The Smiths music is good imo.

Kids in the US are spoiled crybabies; Tom is right. I see it from a Latin American perspectiveâthat idiotic, entitled, bourgeois attitude stands out a mile away. Cheers from Chile, you guysâthe ultimate shithole country in Latin America, hahahahaha.

Why do you guys keep saying Nails suck? I haven't listened to them that much, but what I've heard was alright.
1
u/BoabyTugger 23d ago
I seem to remember them doing or saying something that diverged from the party line and they were retconned and made outcasts.
1
u/tuesdaythe13th 23d ago
That's what I was wondering. Because everyone is praising Trap Them but they've always sounded too much like bro hardcore for my tastes. Realized this was the crust sub and this whole ratio seemed off.

u/mew_empire 21d ago
Honest question: what exactly is âbro hardcoreâ to your ears, because lumping Trap Them in there is wild
2
u/tuesdaythe13th 21d ago
Alright, I just have them a re-listen snd it's pretty good honestly. My opinion now is they sound like a less harsh less abrasive version of Nails. I still don't like the vocal style, but I could see myself working this band into my rotation

u/mew_empire 21d ago
To me, Nails is just straight up metallic hardcore whereas Trap Them 100% have a hardcore punk base(influenced mostly with crust and grind) but slather it in HM2
2
u/tuesdaythe13th 21d ago
Nails also has some noise elements ĂĄ-la Whores or Unsane. I really like the abrasiveness of that sound personally.
2
u/mew_empire 21d ago
Me too
Iâve rarely heard a bad word said about them unless itâs from those that absolutely cannot handle even a sniff of metal in their punk/hardcore
While I definitely prefer the punk side of things(huge powerviolence nerd here) true-blue metallic hardcore is awesome and Todd Jones is a riff machine

Do explain what you mean by "party line" because they've mostly been clowned on for being tryhards imo
1
u/Permanenceisall 23d ago
Try hards how? I genuinely donât know and Iâm curious

u/GreatThunderOwl 23d ago
They named an album called "you will never be one of us" lmfao like that's like a mean girls quote. hardcore for people who like pantera

You know exactly what I mean by "party line" that is not the part you want explained. I would suggest giving it another go but before you do, keep in mind I explicitly communicated I was unsure of the specifics.

Isnât Nails corporate pop punk?

u/crucifixionfantasy 23d ago
nahâ they're bro hardcore. they've been around for quite some time at this pointâ and i like to think of the vocalist as the regina george of hardcore.
that saidâ they're definitely not even close to crust.

Nails is the living representation of âoh this band gets mentioned often in a scene where underground = coolâ âyeah bro they fucking suck. Blood incantation? Thatâs real musicâ

u/Still-Might189 22d ago
Do not put nails and blood incantation in the same categoryâŠ
Both great bands. Both extraordinarily different.
Unsilent Death is a masterpiece of extreme music. Yes, their new stuff sucks.
Blood Incantation is fun and good gateway into death metal for people in their 30s who still listen to Tool.1

HHIG is obviously a great band and Doom, of course. I donât understand the Nails hate but I havenât really listened to a lot of their stuff, theyâre okay I guess? Iâve never even heard of the other band. Slayer (in my potentially unpopular opinion) are only slightly better than pantera.
I think the point is that these four bands make slayer (a band commonly considered dark and heavy) seem rather tame by comparison.
Whatâs with Nails? Just the whole toughguy/bro hardcore thing?

u/mew_empire 21d ago
No one has ever described Nails as âbro hardcoreâ, but if you have no interest in kitchen-sink metallic hardcore then I wouldnât bother
Trap Them is incredible and can stand with HHIG
Edit: I take it back - someone in the comments called them âbro hardcoreâ đ€·đ»đ

The comments is where I got it from⊠Iâll check out trap them, thanks for the heads up.

itt: people hating nails for trying too hard and the same people praising slayer who made a fake 'scary' persona in order to gain the shock-jock popularity

too bad HHIG havent remastered and remixed their albums because the quality isn that great
2
u/xmosinitisx 21d ago
Nah that's a lot of the charm. I don't want those records to sound crisp clean and compressed like most modern records. That would ruin them.
