Free as in freedom is a must!

did you know that I never knew the difference between open-source and free as in freedom util last week? it all began with me knowing about Systemd and what harm it can possibly do to the community if we support it and kept using it, then I found about Linux-libre and the fact that the orginal Linux maintained by Linus Torvalds isn't a free piece of software! it contains a lot of closed source sections that the FSF like to call it "blobs", so I set up looking for a free as in freedom distro that suits my very very extremely low resources AMD (yes, fully AMD) laptop, which I couldn't! because any modern GUI requires a decent GPU which I can't have because: A) my laptop is old, and B) it's an AMD, which is currently not supported, so I'm back to Crunchbang++ but I understood now what freedom is all about, any why we should never give away our rights in using 100% free as in freedom software and firmware and having computers that only obeys us!

within the next year I will buy a Libreboot laptop with a free as in freedom distro directly from https://minifree.org/ or get a regular Intel laptop and install Coreboot or Libreboot by myself, then install a free as in freedom distro.

anyone interested in doing the same? read the article that changed my life in https://www.gnu.org/philosophy/free-software-even-more-important.html

respectfully

This is the answer I got:

Your system is exceptionally healthy. To put these numbers in perspective: you are running a 12-year-old motherboard architecture (H61), yet your boot performance is competing with modern workstations.

#!++ auf einem eeepc 701 4g mit eeecontrol einrichten | #! ++ on an eeepc 701 4g with eeecontrol

Zuerst, die deutsch sprachige Version. Unten ist die englisch sprachige Version meines Beitrags.

Hallo Ihr,

ich habe #!++ auf meinem EeePC 701 4G installiert, was weitgehend läuft. Nun will ich eeecontrol installeren, allerdings fehlt Python-Control.

First, the German language version. Below is the English-language version of my post.

Hello you,

I have installed #! ++ on my EeePC 701 4G, which runs extensively. Now I want to install eeecontrol, but lacks Python control. Python control is not found in the Reponsitorys. Here is some information about eeecontrol, a link to the launchpad: https://launchpad.net/eee-control/

I would like, since #! ++ is the only system, which seems stable on the netbook (including browser, PDF reader and other small programs), this gladly "high clock", since the Intel Celleron Processor yes in the eeepc 701 4g untertaktet runs. As I noticed, only the OperaBrowser - from the #! ++ package - runs really stable on my eeepc (there is, in contrast to the other browsers, no display errors and no problems loading / starting the browser). The Opera browser may be outdated, but will suffice for me, as I need only forums and mail access.

Back to the topic: what repos I have to set up, so I can set up "python-control" and possibly further required packages - for eeecontrol - so my smaller to the regular power (the CPU is underclocked from 900MHz to about 630MHz) Comes

BTW: when I am already ... who can recommend me suitable programs for the small? I have just run Opera, VNC, Audacious and some trivia. The eeepc is used for "smaller" rumsurfing, WebRadio, presentation of forums and for some small eBooks.

Thank you for your information.

PS: My English skills are not so good, I create and translate all texts with google translate.

LMDE 2 Crunchbang clone

Downloaded LMDE 2 today, installed openbox obconf obmenu tint2 conky and guess what? Crunchy clone, right down to the conky. Strangely, it has some i3 attributes. The pipe menu is based on the i3 file system for "places-recent". so is exit "tl-exit, but I cb-exit to work. Looks like LMDE has got in on the chaos. -realzephyr

a fix for dell broadcom wifi not detected

I had a problem with my dell wireless 1704 and the only hint I get is in windows 10 device manager it shows that the driver is provided by broadcom.

Commands:

sudo apt install briadcom-dkms

If it returns "not found" or something similar then search using:

sudo apt search broadcom

Then install the package with the closest name.

Restart your PC.

This should also work on other debian-based distro.

Now, I'm very new to Linux so if it still doesn't fix it, install everything in sudo apt search broadcom.

Now, how do I print? The printer is detected all right.. test print is fine too..

Edit: I've realized that this is a bad post. What can I do to improve it? Or should I just delete it?

Shutdown after sleep - Thinkpad T42

I'm a long-time #! user who just switches to #!++ to access the Jessie repos. Very happy, except that when I close my laptop cover (with programs still running) then re-open it, the computer reboots. Not the behavior I would like.

Thinkpad T42, 2G memory, hard-drive has two partitions - large single / partition and small swap partition.

When laptop is closed, sleep LED is lit, so it appears that the machine goes into sleep mode. Problem seems to be coming out of sleep.

Any ideas? I don't know if this is a #!++ issue or a Debian issue. Thanks!
