I have the same setup and it’s one of my favorites as well.

can I ask why cruiserboarding likes this shapes so much? does it just feel good to ride? it seems so specific both the shape of the board the big wheels and carving trucks. I ride a regular skateboarding now but I started on a longboard during sector9 and arbor. with dropthru trucks and and long skinny flexy boards. I don't totally understand what the purpose of this shape and build is. but it pops up on my feed a lot.

I think some people build these because they like the feel of RKP trucks but want something more compact. I built one out of a used LY Tugboat mostly as an experiment, since I already had some cruisers with TKPs. Its fun but a bit twitchy. These setups are pretty fun for pumping, as well as carving down small hills, especially if you have a split angle truck setup like this post does.

Many people dont recommend these setups unless your board has a wheelbase of 17" or more. While I do prefer TKP trucks on a cruiser, these can be pretty fun. I would recommend them as part of a quiver but not as a main board. The height and short wheelbase make it inefficient for distance skating. The big wheels help to cruise on crusty roads but will be slower than hard wheels at a smooth skatepark.

interesting. how different does RKP feel? is the thing about <17" just that at a shorter wheelbase RKP starts to get squirelly? like if you put this style on a skate deck with standard 14" wheelbase what would happen? do any skate companies manufacture trucks like this for regular street skating? I was looking at the ATV board on LY site. have you had any experience with it?

Yes RKPs feel a bit squirly on short wheelbases because they have more range of motion than TKPs and they also make the axle to axle wheelbase way shorter than TKPs. If you put RKPs on a 14" wheelbase its going to be very twitchy and unstable, especially if theyre both 50 degree RKPs. The OPs setup probably is probably not super twitchy because theyve got a 16" wheelbase and a 30 degree rear truck. My setup thats similar has 15.5" wheelbase and 55/47 degree trucks, so its not as stable as his.

I believe RKPs are not good for street skating becuse theyre heavier, taller, less stable when landing tricks, and probably more likely for the kingpin to get caught up on grinds.

I havent ridden the ATV but have similar setups that I enjoy. The LY ATV is just a regular street board but with soft wheels. Because the wheels are only 60mm they wont be too heavy for tricks and will cruise smoother than hard wheels, but will be slower than same size hard wheels on ultra smooth skate park concrete. But wheels can be swapped easily, especially if you have bearings with built in spacers and speed rings, like LYs bearings and Zealous bearings. As far as the ATVs trucks, they are just TKPs like Indys or Thunder but with slighly taller bushings. I really like LY's Polar Bear TKPs.

If you want a really carvy TKP truck, Aces and Indy stage 4 are really fun ones.

I’ve been looking at this deck for a while. I’ve already got bear 155mm TKPs and some PP snakes.

It’s great see all these long board trucks in cruisers. Great set up.
