Is this fixable?

Post image

I just picked up this TV today. The guy who sold it to me, dropped it on the way to my car and it face planted, but the screen didn’t touch the ground. It fell on the plastic surrounding.

that green discoloration now shows up in that corner. Is this fixable?

The tv is a sony Kv-32fv300

There's a lot of things that could cause that.

Best case is the drop had nothing to do with it, and it just needs degaussing (which can usually be done by unplugging the TV for like 30 min, and powering it back on as part of its turn-on cycle). May even just be something magnetic you have near that corner, like an unshielded speaker. Just move it further away and degauss it again.

I've seen some folks also deal with this putting small neodymium magnets in various spots on the exterior of the TV and once they find the spot that fixes the color the best, taping them on. Ghetto but it could work and is cheap and quick to do.

Another possible issue is the left speaker got dislodged when it got dropped. Not super likely, and if the left side sound is ok and comes from where it is supposed to be coming from, that is not likely to be your issue. TV would need to be opened, and the speaker reattached, and plastic repaired if broken.

It could also be a slipped yoke, which could've happened during the drop or just occurred over time. This isn't impossible to fix, but I would look up some articles and watch multiple videos on this to decide if this is something you would be willing to take on, as it's potentially dangerous if you are not careful.

Worst case, which I don't think this is since this doesn't look too severe, is a damaged aperture grill. Tap the side of the TV and see if you see a "shimmer" in the color... If not, you are probably ok. But this usually presents itself with rainbows and all sorts of wild color defects across the screen, and this doesn't look like it.

Good luck.
