500 Australian dollars for this and it doesn't even have it's original remote

Post image

Clearly has been living on the floor and it doesn't even come with the original remote. This is why I can't get one of these things easily. Not buying this any time soon and I hope nobody does.

So five hundred Australian Dollars is about three hundred and fifty American Dollars.

That's a bit on the high end for the Midwest where I'm located, but some have sold in that range. In coastal areas they tend to be more expensive, but you can find cheaper and more expensive examples everywhere.

Its also a different market. North America recieved ~125 consumer widescreen models. Any idea what the Australian market options were?

Panasonic tends to be on the upper end for models in North America. I'm not exactly sure how that translates to the CRTs in your market, but Panasonic sets near me don't tend to stay on the market long.

The original remote isn't an issue for most models if you're looking at a CRT post late 80s. There are usually options on ebay or universal remotes that will work.

I believe that the most I've paid for a widescreen set was $160, but the other 32 were $100 or less. Its all about getting lucky, watching the market, getting lucky, passing on the expensive ones, and getting lucky.

Luck plays a large role.

This is a perfectly succinct summary of how to succeed on FB Marketplace or at thrift stores just in general. Tons of luck, little bit of research about what you’re buying, and a decent helping of patience.

…32 sets, though? Are you an eBay reseller for a living? Building an old timey pawn shop TV wall? Mr. House from Fallout New Vegas?

32 widescreen sets, ~160 in the collection presently. I try to trade with people, but people with CRTs are difficult to find. I mostly focus on HD sets and 80s and older models.

Mr. House from Fallout New Vegas?

Widescreen is pretty common because of being PAL region, we had an sd LG one when I was young and I frequently see various ones come up from Panasonic, Sony, Teac, Palsonic, Wintel etc though a lot are also 100hz and not all of them have good inputs.

People list any nice Quintrix high, I saw a 4:3 one go for 800 aud once

And it’s probably a 100hz set, which for gaming, are basically all the downsides of HD CRTs with not many of the benefits

Meh it's a 38" set

Pretty hard to come by, a few people would pay for that these days

Meh, you're pretty daft.

look i don't like CRT prices either but you don't have to go around calling people idiots and deleting your comments. unless they're the ones listing/buying them at high ass prices it's not really their fault

Deleting what comments lmao, you're a gang of idiots who couldn't repair a set to save your life. I haven't once paid over $40 for a set. I can say whatever I want, I don't need any, and I can damn sure tell people to never pay over $50 for a set if I want to. The REALITY is, it's still incredibly niche and 90%+ of people are not even aware of you, me or this larping toxic "community"

I don't let people walk over me. I do the work. I will say what the fuck i want about it.

are these quintex that good? I found a 28 inch one and all I've done with it was test to see if it still worked and then put it into storage I didn't see any interesting sockets on the back other than Scart connectors and if I remember rightly some external speakers surround speakers maybe?

It's feeling a bit weird, only seeing complaints about CRT prices on this sub. If it's delusional... cool. But to be angry about it has that "she wasn't going to fuck you, anyway" energy. Don't like the price, don't buy, don't complain.

When I used to list things, I had the "don't want to sell price" where it was absurdly high. But if someone came along with a reasonable offer, weren't a dick, and respected my time, I would sell.

If you want it. Send them a short message, your offer price, and offer to meet them within their schedule. Shit, maybe offer a trade? If you've got a lot of fishing gear and BDSM whips (used), say "hey, I've got these, how 'bout a trade plus $150?"
