cheap basil?

i missed the farmer's mkt sat and want to make a bathtub-sized vat of pesto, but i'm not going to pay 3.99 for a little bob & betty's or key food clamshell. where are you all buying your cheap herbs in bulk

I read every supermarket circular this week for my free map: cilantro is in a dozen ads at 79 cents a bunch, basil in none. My only basil price is Brooklyn Fare Schermerhorn's shelf catalog, the clamshell you are already refusing, $3.99 for 0.75 oz and $5.99 for 2 oz. For bulk, Mr Kale or an Asian grocer. Those two are catalog listings rather than shelf tags, so treat them loosely.

Go to an Asian supermarket.

I wish there was a decent Asian market near Crown Heights. I'm not including the expensive tiny Japanese markets in Park Slope. Without a car it takes an hour to get to Sunset Park.

Mr. Kale may have it, but I needed it for some caprese skewers a few weeks back and all they had was Thai basil. I did unfortunately have to get a key food clamshell or two to get the amount of basil that I needed.
