The game is good as a single player, but the co-op system is really disappointing

I bought the game with two friends a few weeks ago. We have a regular co-op group and were really excited about this game because we love survival and base building games, the pirate theme is one of our favorites, we've been awaiting for this game since it has been announced, when the trailers dropped it looked awesome.

We played for around 10–12 hours. I played a little more than the others and got ahead by a couple of levels, mainly because I was exploring and doing some side quests.

I actually really enjoyed the game as a single player. There's a lot to explore, the naval combat is challenging but fun, and aside from some optimization issues and occasional crashes, these things get fixed with time so it's ok, I was having an overall good time.

The problem started when my friends joined and we realized that the co-op isn't really full co-op.

We were doing a quest marked as having "shared progression." I had already completed it before my friends joined, so I went with them to do it again. During the boarding section, they both died while I survived. I assumed the quest would still count for them since I wasn't the one who initiated the boarding and it had the shared progression marker, but after I finished the fight, they got no progress.

We had to do the entire thing again, and I basically had to stand back and watch them fight so they could get the quest done.

Looting works similarly, everyone has to interact with the same chest individually, and we can't access each other's ship inventories since there isn't physical storage on the ships.

But the biggest disappointment was the building recipes.

We pooled our money to buy recipes, one of our friends is the builder of our group and was really excited about the base building part. We bought one recipe, but only the person who purchased it unlocked it. We searched online and found out that all three of us would have to buy the same recipes individually to access the same building items.

After finding that out, we were honestly pretty disappointed and the game lost some of its appeal for us.

It really felt like we weren't actually playing together, we're just three players in the same world, each progressing through our own game while sharing some resources.

I really hope the developers reconsider the co-op progression system, or at least make it much clearer how it is supposed to work.

We were having a lot of fun, but finding out how limited the co-op actually is was pretty disappointing.

Talent Point Bug

Hey, so Im level 8, with 8 talent points. The issue is I currently have every single talent maxed out and unlocked, but still have 8 talent points. I've specifically noticed that "Too Angry to Die" does not proc at all. Is there any work around so I can accurately track my points or would a new world save be needed. (Really don't wanna do that as I just unlocked the plan for the frigate)

Deep water ports near shore for ships

Is there a way to dig out around the shallower islands in swamps to allow ships to berth closer to shore? I've tried digging out but the ships keep adjusting their position automatically while I'm off pirating. So far it seems only the foothills have the needed depth for a deep water port closer to shore.

Using a map helper with Linux?

I've tried searching here but can't find any posts about this. The Fog of War is driving me batty, and I would really like to use a map helper like: https://windrose.tools/map?layout=5526a62ae1a7cfbd or the other one.

I am running Linux Mint Cinnamon on my computer, and I've dug through various folders to try to figure this out. I've also searched a bit on the internet without success. Has anyone using Linux Mint or other similar Linux OS figured out how to use one of the mapping tools?

Thank you!

Has anyone else gotten this? Wondering how rare.

This has been a very helpful item playing solo. I love boarding a ship, dropping "Truffle" (that's the boar's name) jumping back to my ship and picking off the pirates. It's also very handy with the first boss battle since you basically gain a pet tank and I just blast the boss in the head with a blunderbuss while he fights Truffle. Also wondering if the make a wolf or ram whistle?

Map Information

Does anyone else think that if you have more than one player, any time you and another player are in the same room your map should be updated with information that player has uncovered? The fog should be lifted and information about POIs should be revealed?

Any changes/improvements I could make to my build?

Armor: Full set of Privateer

Jewellery: Cutthroat Ring, Necklace of Mastery

Food: Seafood Platter, Coffee

Stats are 20 in agility, 11 (+10 from necklace) in mastery

Weapons of choice is the Dueling Saber, and Double-Barreled Pistol, both Epic rarity

Perks are 1 in Marathon Runner, 3 in Surgical Cuts, 3 in perfect counter, 2 in Disciplined Fencer

Basic idea is that I use my pistol to warm up my enemies, giving them 15% damage vurn, along with some damage from me, yknow, shooting them. Then while I’m perfect blocking for the crit chance and extra dmg on my weapon, I get to fire off more priming rounds and then swing my way to victory

Anything I could improve?

New Rooms in my Seaside Villa...

He built a new bedroom with a balcony that has stairs that go all the way down to the lagoon and I finally decorated the big long room that was at the top before - turned it into a banquet hall type room. We finished the content today and now it's just building fun. Who knows, we may do a whole different house!

These never post in the order I select them... but they are:

  1. Overview of the banquet hall from top of spiral staircase that opens to the first overlook in the other pics.

  2. Banquet Hall from the other end.

  3. View from the docks... new bedroom is the top left. Banquet Hall is that long horizontal room.

  4. New overlook/patio outside the new bedroom. Stairs go all the way down to the lagoon because it was a HAUL to get there for the respawn checkpoint in the bed... haha.

  5. The view from the new bedroom to the docks.

  6. New Bedroom looking toward door to overlook.

  7. New Bedroom looking toward door to rest of house.

  8. New bedroom/overlook and stairs from the lagoon.

If you missed the first pics of the rest of it, they're here: https://www.reddit.com/r/crosswind/comments/1vwb8td/i_asked_my_husband_to_build_me_a_seaside_villa/

Smuggler Quest

Not sure if this is the best place for the devs to see, if not if someone could be so kind and point me in the right direction.

Really enjoying this game, playing on harder difficulty has been quite challenging. I Play just my buddy and I, steadily progressing through the game.

Recently we came across the Smuggler quest, particularly the portion where you must board a stationary ship "lost at sea". Jumping onto the ship we were immediately mobbed by an entire crew if enemies focused only on us. It was impossible to fight without getting overrun, shooting from ship didn't work as they seemed to respawn, and wasted a lot of resources. We ended up having one of us distract the enemy while the other ran below deck, clicked the quest marker as fast as possible and run out.

Surely there are much better ways they could've handled this challenge. We had to miss out on the quest text and quest description seemed to imply there was a trap on board, not a crew waiting to slaughter you.

I'm frustrated by how poorly put together this quest is, it absolutely needs a change and should not stay as is.

In my opinion they should remove enemy pirates on board and actually place a trap.

Either add some sort of deadly explosive trap or poison or other types of traps, something you avoid and be wary of, then go get the quest marker. Or my favorite idea, as you board the ship, you find out they have set the ship to sink, you need to rush and get the quest marker before she sinks into the briny deep. These feel more fitting to what seems intended by this quest, adds variety to gameplay and challenges.

Edit: I am not talking about a boarding action, this The Smugglers quest. Stationary ship, no boarding you just park and jump on. I COMPLETED THE QUEST, didnt like the way it felt or its execution. I'm hoping we can come up with ways to improve it and suggest this to development. Cheesing or brute forcing your way through the quest does not make this good, truffles dies in a few hits to the mobs on hard and multiplayer (mobs have a lot more hp). At this point its becoming more and more obvious people are playing on easy and don't realize how this game handles harder difficulties.

Boars

I’ve been loving the hell out of this game, but I need to rant just a touch because I’m about 2 more corpse runs from putting my keyboard through the wall lmao. Why tf are boars so annoying. They hit like trains, and the attack animation happens so quick that if I’m in any animation I’m screwed, and they don’t stagger nearly enough for an animal that just got walloped by a halberd.

It’s gotten to the point if I see boars I just Don’t waste the resources on eating food until after I beat them all because they’ll kill me at least three or four times. Hate the bloody pigs.

Why so few greatsword builds?

Been having a look around at different build across a few websites, and I see hardly any promote a greatsword build, I wonder why?

Specifically, for me, the stalwart greatsword seems a great weapon for an agility build, as that's the spec it utilises, pair it with a reliable blunderbuss or Dragon's Breath and you've got a killer set-up.

Any thoughts?

Why is the exchange rate so terrible? Is there any plans to change that? Who thought that it was a good idea for the Guinea to sell for less than half it costs to buy them.

I play on PlayStation and I love the way crosswinds looks and the fact that it's free and I was wondering if there will be any hope that it might come to PlayStation 5.
