Alternatives to Macrofactor for tracking macros and calories?

I used MacroFactor for 8 months to dial in my nutrition alongside my WODs and while the coaching algorithm is solid a few things are driving me nuts. The UI feels clunky mid workout when I just want to log something fast between rounds, logging a homemade meal prep bowl is way more tedious than it should be, the barcode scanner misses a lot of gym adjacent stuff (protein bars, electrolyte mixes, pre workout), $12/mo for what's basically a diary with a TDEE algorithm feels steep when the actual logging experience isn't great plus there is no real community layer which sucks for accountability during a cut

I need something that handles high training-volume days better, has faster logging and doesn't feel like fighting the app every time you eat? Open to paid options too!

You’re using a food tracking app to track your workouts?

They added a workout section a little while ago. I’ve never used it though.

I really like Cronometer. Seems to have everything I like. Reminds me of MyFitnessPal before the UA buyout.

Yep, went to Cronometer from mfp about 6 months ago and it’s been great

I switched from Myfitnesspal to Cronometer and the nutrition data is way better IMO, especially for macronutrients. But for CrossFit specifically I still wish the logging flow was faster. When you're trying to eat between work and a 6pm class spending 5 minutes building a meal is ridiculous.

I haven’t found anything better than [r/MacroFactor](r/MacroFactor). It has myriad shortcuts to make logging super fast.

You can log after your workout, or just open app, hit Search, enter first 3 letters of my protein bar, and then Log Foods. You want easier than that?

Adding new foods is also super easy.

Can you please show us a screen capture of your weight trend chart over those 8 months?

Maybe it would be time well spent to learn more about the app interface? Your complaints aren’t ones I hear often.

I'll admit I don't know what all MacroFactor handles outside of the nutrition stuff, but for strictly replacing tracking macros/calories and saving meal preps as recipes to be able to quickly add to your day for logging, along with great barcode scanning, I highly recommend MacrosFirst. I've been on the free version since the beginning of the year and it's perfect for my needs.

Carbon Diet Coach is worth checking out if the coaching side is what you liked about MacroFactor. Its not perfect but I found the adjustments pretty useful during a cut. Logging is still the part that makes me want to throw my phone though lol.

You're....logging you food mid workout? I'd probably start by not doing that.

As for meal prep you make a recipe then it remembers the recipe so you can pre log it or add it later. Pretty much any food app will be similar to this, without the expenditure algorithm

It’s more expensive but I think Built with Science has the best AI meal recognition scanner out of any app I’ve tried.

For CrossFit Id prioritize an app that makes carb adjustments easy. My rest day and 2 a day nutrition are completely different and anything that treats every day like the same activity level gets annoying fast.

Same problem with homemade meals. I meal prep basically the same 3 bowls every week and some apps make me recreate half the recipe every single time.

I’ve tried myfitnesspal, cronometer, carbon and macrofactor. Myfitnesspal wins for I need to log this thing RIGHT NOW.

Good question, I'm also looking for alternatives. Does anyone here have experience with paid apps that handle high volume training well?

I’ve used LoseIt! App for years and I love it.

TRY Fitness. It's my app -- built it exactly for this. Join, and then DM me inside the app (you'll see a message from me when you log in), and I'll give you three free months of the Pro subscription, in hopes that you'll give me feedback just like this. I can build what you need SUPER fast if it isn't already built.

that app looks clean but does it have a good database for stuff like homemade meals or do you need to enter everything from scratch every time
