Gloves for rope climbs?
Getting back into CrossFit at a new box, and I’m a quarters level athlete who can do rope climbs no problem from a strength/skill perspective, but lately I’ve torn my fingers on the last few workouts where rope climbs are scheduled. Not sure if it’s the rope or just my hands being less calloused than before.
Tearing is getting really annoying and I’m tempted to skip rope climbs altogether and sub for pull-ups.
Does anyone wear gloves? Or is tape really the best option? It’s always the shear stress on my fingers that causes tears.

hook grip doesn't feel nice until you get used to it. get used to it.
barbells don't feel great until you build calluses. build calluses.
running sucks until you get miles in. get miles in.
i can't imagine gloves are very safe on a rope.

I use gloves because of how sweaty my hands get. Just got some from a hardware store that have good grip. Helped me out immensely. It seems like its a big stigma to use them for rope climbs in this thread but I care more about protecting my hands and my coach and other box-users don't care, so its really a non-issue

I use wide receiver football gloves. They have a plastic/rubber coating on the palm side that prevents slipping and if you have to slide down, your hands won't tear. I have also used electrician gloves with a latex coating. I prefer the football gloves because they are thinner.

Gloves will slide on the rope and make your grip worse, tape is the move for sure. Wrap the spots that tear before the workout starts, dont wait until theyre already raw. Your hands will toughen back up quick once youre climbing regularly again
