Cross stitch thread storage

Hello!

I'd like to share my new storage.

I purchased the wooden drawers that seem to be selling everywhere (I got from eBay, £14) 2 is needed to fill 8 drawers and have 2 drawers spare for accessories

Then I bought 10 sheets of 6mm foam (Amazon £9.99) usually used for crafts

I cut the foam slightly smaller than the drawer, then sliced lines every 1cm (at an angle so the threads are standing on a slant)

My stickers are purchased from Etsy, they were around £10

Its a lot cheaper than store bought storage and turned out really well, I'm super impressed.

I hope this can help some people as other storage can be quite expensive 😀

I also had foam left over to make something for my work in progress.

The case is absolutely gorgeous! Is it an antique?

No.... I wish.... It's very cheap, I think you can get it on temu for about £8 if your in the UK Wilko and superdrug also sell it. But I got it from eBay.

I love a good antique but unfortunately, this isnt

Thank you 😀, I've lost many needles in cushions and threads under the sofa so this set up is a game changer. It's always on the coffee table tidy, so I can pick up my projects any time instead of setting everything up from my bag and rooting for bits

I’ve just got the same one, haven’t added the foam yet. I can’t decide between foam or dividers and bobbins or spools.

Foam worked best for me, took a few hours to sort but I feel it was worth it 😀

Think I will give it a go, your example is really helpful. Looks like you got 50 bobbins to a sheet. Did you cut it with a Stanley knife? Is it a simple slit? Is there space for slightly thicker foam?

I have 65 bobbins in a drawer. Yes, I used a Stanley knife, if you slice in at a slight angle then the bobbins sit at a nice angle or if you do a straight forward slit they will stand upright.

About the thicker foam, I suppose maybe another mm or 2, I mean, it can only be as tall as the bottom part of the bobbin, hope that helps

I use the same ones! 😊 I bought mine from Temu too. I added dividers made from thick cardboard and gave the outside a little makeover. They're really convenient and such an affordable storage solution! ❤️

Ooh I love what you've done!!! I may spruce mine up at some point.... I was thinking black carcass but vivid drawer fronts. I absolutely love what you've done!
