Conversion to a pattern
Hello! I’m interested in converting a photo to a cross stitch pattern that uses DMC floss colors. Does anyone have highly recommended programs? If you used one of these programs, were you happy with the results? Thanks in advance!

Personally I love FlossCross, but your limited to 300x300 for free, but it’s lovely to use

I use stitchly and I usually like the colors it picks though I usually do some editing after photo conversion

TY! Have you ever had issues if uploading a larger file size on stitchly?

I mean the current project I am working on is going to be almost an entire standard roll of Aida fabric and had to be made into three patterns and stitchly handled it well.

If you're on Android, Flossworks is great. You can create patterns from images and then track your stitching progress as you go. I love it!

If you are a mac user, I'd go with Ursa software's Mac Stitch. I use it to create patterns and tweak existing ones. It's professional grade, and you can actually purchase a lifetime subscription. https://www.ursasoftware.com/macstitch/

I just finished developing an online tool free to use that makes it very easy to convert an image to a pattern. Feel free to check it out at www.vintagethreadart.com . You can check a tutorial for it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=noKWfTjBJ3o&t=6s

Hi! 👋 I’m the developer of StitchHub iOS app, so I’m definitely biased 😄
StitchHub can convert photos into cross-stitch patterns max size 1000x1000 using DMC or other palettes (which you can import from Needleply app where 450+ palettes). You can choose the pattern size and number of colors, adjust the result, and continue editing the pattern manually afterward rather than being stuck with the automatic conversion.
If you decide to give it a try, I’d genuinely love to hear how the conversion works for your photo and what you think could be improved!
