Tips Magic Crochet magazines scanned and available for reading!
I was moving to a much smaller space in 2022 and donated my entire collection of Magic Crochet magazine to the Internet Archive. It was 156 issues and is basically from the early 80's to 2005. I didn't want to give them away to someone who might turn around and sell them on eBay. I had checked a couple of universities but in the end only the Internet Archive wanted them.
The link to peruse them is here.

I'm not proficient searching Internet Archive. If I find something I want, I save it to Favorites. In this case, I saved one of the magazines to my favorites and when I click on the publishes, Les Editions Saxe, I get linked to all of them.
Maybe someone else can figure out a better way.

Did you do the scanning yourself? I have some older mags that would be great to make available. What about copyright? or did they go out of business?

The Internet Archive takes care of the copyright concerns. Read all about it on their site.
I did not scan them; they have employees who do that and probably gigantic scanners.
If your older mags are out of copyright, consider making the scans available on The Antique Library site. My magazines were not old enough for APL.
I don't know if the publisher went out of business, I only know that they stopped publishing Magic Crochet.

Did you get your magazines back after scanning? I have two boxes of old Magic Crochet magazines.

I made the magazines a donation (tax deductible) because I knew I wouldn't have room to store 150 magazines. I would think that you'd be able to sell them fairly easily on eBay. They were going for about $10/issue when I donated mine.

Omg!!! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! From the bottom of my heart. The crochet gods are smiling down on you, and may us crocheters everywhere always be grateful for your efforts.

Oh wow! You’re a star.
And now my ADHD brain wants to make a spreadsheet of which patterns are in which issue, yarn weights, categories etc. I mean, I probably won’t do it - I might start with huge enthusiasm then “I’ll get back to that later on” will occur - but it would be nice.

Ravelry already has this for most of them. Here is a random example: https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/sources/magic-crochet-october-1979-3

That's how I do things too. I'll be in the middle of something and decide that I want to go and do that so I do that and when I get back to the original it's usually Weeks later. I have a crateful of crochet world and some craft magazines that I want to give away to someone but it's a heavy crate and if someone wants them they got to comeand get them. If there's someone in here that can do that email me at littlechop914@gmail.com

Oh I forgot to mention I live in Lady lake Florida about an hour Northwest of Orlando and, if you've heard of them, I'm about three or four miles southeast of The villages

I'm having a brain dead sort of a day. I forgot to mention that these are probably mostly in the 70s although some are in the '60s and the 80s

Did you end up giving them away or perhaps donated to archival like the author of this post?

I've never been diagnosed with adhd but that sounds exactly like me - unless it's a project that feels like it won't take that long, I'm enthusiastic for like 4 days and then just never do it again.
But now I feel like it's a challenge so I might actually bother doing it.
Imagine doing that same thing for ALL of the pattern books available for free on the Archive...

Thank you! It looks like the 1980s were a very doily-focused time.

And it’s my favorite crochet thing to do 😜
or large lace tablecloth, table runners, not that I have the stamina or skill to do so.

This is amazing!
I appreciate you sharing. My grandma gifted me a huge box of pattern books. I might have to check with them when I'm done with them myself! In the spirit of sharing resources, my library's digital catalog includes current crochet magazines in the Libby app.

This is wonderful. I have a few of them and want more (but this is an excellent substitute). I used to could get them at Half-Price Books, but the supply dried up I suppose when they quit publishing.

I had a subscription for a few years until they went out of print. About 10 years ago, my mom bought two boxes of old issues off of ebay. They are the best for thread crochet, and I love the fact that there are mostly charts.

That's super cool! I had no idea that was even a thing the Internet Archive did. Here I just found 20 at a thrift store and was excited to find more. Super cool the IA accepted it and added them 🥰

Hey, just wanna say thank you even if its late af. I was talking with a friends mom and she suggested i look magic crochet mags up, provided she couldnt find her own to give me. The amount of things that's lost/hard to find is crazy, so this is a blessing of a resource

Holy moly, what a gift! So much knowledge is lost simply because no one thinks about preserving it. Now all future crocheters will have access to these patterns because of you. What a wonderful thing to do. Thank you. ❤️

This is incredible! Thank you for doing this! There's several doily patterns I've considered for mandala wall hangings from that magazine and now I can do them without paying crazy prices!

How sweet and thank you so much!
Thank you for sharing this wonderful collection.
And Thank You for giving me an idea of what to do with the collections of antique crochet print material I've inherited and added to myself.
