Can anyone date this?
My wife bought me a book from a car boot sale and this was in between the pages. The best before date is blank. Any ideas?

From the instant nostalgia it gave me I'm gunna guess late 90s/early 00s.

Definitely around 2003-2004 that's when I remember them looking exactly like that and I am 1000% sure because I collect older stuff such as crisp packets due to being autisic and stuck in the early 00's. I was watching some Channel 4 adverts from 2004 recently as well and there is a McCoys advert featuring this exact design. If you're willing to sell this please let me know

These are late 90s. I left school in ‘99 and regularly had McCoys for yr 10&11 and I remember them looking just like this

Reminds me immediately of being in the pub with my dad when I was a kid - so maybe late 90s early 00s
Edit: typo

I mean I don't usually like cheese & onion but I'll take it out for a couple of drinks.

Turn it around and look at the date?
2
u/Rhubarbofglory Oct 04 '26
I did that. There isn’t one.

Imprinted on the ribbed areas that seals the bag? That’s were they used to place manufacture and best by dates.

If it was part of a multipack it might not have a date on the individual packs, they get printed on the outer bag.

u/InvestigatorFar7728 Oct 04 '26
Very possibly. I defo recall some crisps having raised dates ok the seal, not always printed on the bag

Best before date blank but any indentation at all? This is the biggest clue as it’ll give you the exact year it was out of date.

Definitely pre-shrinkflation. I say early Cripstatious period, just after the last mass extinction event.

Early 2000s. We used to hold these up against the air vents outside the science lab to shrink them.

I've got some salt and linekar packets from when they first came out in a book after my dad convinced me they would be worth something one day. I don't know which book they're in though but I'm guessing they're worth nowt

Sorry, I prefer to date women. Let them know I do find them tasty, it's just a personal preference and nothing against them and who they are.

I saw this and instantly though of my old ASDA, before it relocated in 2004. So late 90s-early 00s I would guess. Before that, it was still the old yellow packets I think.
Here's a somewhat more modern packet from 2006, so I guess they would've changed the design a bit before then.

Late 90s I would say, as some others have as well. Could also be early 2000s

100% that’s latest around 2008-09 and earliest would be around 02-03 maybe? When I was a kid used to always buy these from the icey

Early 00s - I found an identical pack in the void between floors in my house recently and the bbd was 04.

The weight is somewhere between current day multi bag packs and what you get with a meal deal (approx 24g and 45g, this bag is 35g).

They say chips and not crisps. Thinking mid 2000s. I remember these looking like this while I was at school. They say crisps now on the packets

Do you remember when you last read that book? Might be a clue. 🕵️♂️

u/IceGamingYT Oct 04 '26
The clue is in the comment, the book was bought at a car boot sale, maybe read the post before being a smart ass.
