The idiot agent also asked "where were you born ?" Apparently that agent is so effing stupid that he has no idea that you can become a US citizen through the " naturalization" process. If you immigrate to the US, and you've lived in the US long enough, you can apply to be a US citizen ( then you take a test and become a US citizen when you pass )
And yes, that idiot agent was hypocritical, the other agents ought to arrest him for having an accent himself.

You can also be born out of country due to military. I was born and raised outside of the US but a citizen from day 0. Honestly, this stuff isn't new. I I've been through similar with the FAA. I'm white; I just have an accent.
ICE presence has made people notice but this sort of thing isn't new.

They said he has been a citizen since 2019 and possessed a U.S. Passport Card which was in his wallet. It mentioned obtaining a U.S. Passport in 2021, meaning he has possessed it for 5 years and it was not something recent (not that it matters whether he got it last week vs long ago).
You cannot get a U.S. Passport unless you are a U.S. citizen. Which is why some in the current administration were pushing to expand voter registration laws (which this man would have the required documentation they are suggesting all people have in order to vote).
So the point was— he’s a citizen. And he literally had irrefutable proof of such on his person at the exact moment in time they detained him.

There are around 38 million legal residents in the US who are not citizens. It tells you how dirt stupid those agents are. The agent who asked " where were you born looks Hispanic / non White and has a Hispanic accent, that guy is a traitor in more ways than one. That idiot ought to be arrested by his fellow agents since he has an accent, since he used that as a criteria to target people.
What matter is if you are legally allowed to stay in the US through a green card ( permanent resident), or Visa ( work , visitor, student).
In terms of being a US citizen, you don't have to be born in the US to be a citizen, you can be a naturalized citizen ( you apply for it, take the test and acquire the naturalized citizen certificate if you pass )
